Lighting Super Confused : Need Simple Help for Med Grow Please.

Please tell me if I'm ok with the following and if not please provide answers for a complete noob without any engineering or building needed...

THIS WILL BE MY FIRST GROW:

I have a 3' by 4' x 8' tall area = 12 sq ft.

Here is the strain I'm considering as it is heat tolerant in my warm room and meets my medical needs:

Northern Light Auto

If I install two (2) of the

HLG 100 Quantum Board LED Grow Lamp Veg & Bloom 3000K
Amazon product ASIN B07C59J8L2
and run them 20 hours on / 4 hours off ( someone suggested this already, is this right?)

How high should they be placed above:

seedlings?

veg?

flower?

I'm fairly educated but embarrassingly stupid in this case.
Please speak slowly with no sudden movements.

Welcome to AFN! And congrats on deciding to take your medication into your own hands! Thats a solid light choice. As farvas how high to hang it above your plants, that's best asked to the manufacture. HLG's website should list that info if its not asked in the qurstions on Amazon. As far as 20/4 light cycle, its personal preference. We have growers and breeders that grow under 24/7 light. But autos should get at least 18 hrs of light for a good yield. Sounds like you've got a solid plan place!

I've read autos are different than regular strains for light requirements.
That's one reason I'm asking here in the Auto forum.
Afraid I'm gonna burn or kill my plants.

Woof and welcome.....Yes autos will flower on their age and are not dependent on the change in the light schedule.....I don’t know if you’re going to be using nutrients ...you really don’t need to overload those northern lights...I’ve grown quite a few of the growers choice northern lights and with two different nute brands I was using half to three-quarter ratio of what label says all the way through starting at a quarter ratio at two weeks or three nodoes. And they take that real nicely without wanting more

Think of it as TOTAL light required over TIME mate.

So an auto gets light for say 20 hours a day, whereas a photo in flower only gets 12 hours of light. So to get the same total amount of light over a period of time like 24 hours, the auto's light doesn't need to be as strong as its on for nearly twice as long in every light period.

They all need roughly the same amount of light, just over different periods of time.

As for the light height, I personally would study the journals of people on here using the same lights. Boom. Real world experience.

Welcome, grow medium is your next big choice, after reading loads, I went with soil as it is very forgiving for my rooky self. This will be as important as your lights. Pot size, nutrients and amount of time you want to spend in the garden.

2. pots:
start and finish in 5 gallon buckets w/ holes drilled around base for drainage and catch pans.

A quick Google search tells me 18"-24" for seedlings I would start at 24". If you get too much of a stretch for your liking, you can lower it a bit. I wouldn't worry over the distance for the future, your plant will let you know.

You mentioned it being warm where you are. You may want to consider 18/6 light cycle if temps get too high. I'm in New England and I run 18/6 in the summer and gradually get to 24/0 come winter.

Sounds like a plan. Try not to overthink it. The HLG website did all of their par tests at a light height of 12 inches above the canopy. Pick whichever light cycle that works best for you.. 24/7, 20/4 or 18/6. Pick one, and keep it the same from seed to harvest.
