Thanks for joining me on another grow.... number 19

I've got loads of old seeds knocking around, so I thought I should dig deep and use some of my older beans before they get past it.

@DutchPassionTony sent me a few freebies way back, so this is what I've chosen...
    • Night Queen - I'm obsessed with this strain, a good strong Indica that hits the spot every time.
    • Cinderella Jack - another very strong smoke with 25% plus THC levels
    • Think DIfferent - the classic old School Dutch Passion special that everyone loves!
    • Daiquiri Lime - great tasting bud with huge harvest potential
All Autos, the Night Queen is from a batch I received in May 2018, the Cinderella Jack is from July 2017, the Daiquiri Lime is from April 2016... over 4 years old, but the Think Different is from September 2014... nearly 6 years old!!!

I planted each seed in a Solo cup full of Coco soaked in EC 0.7 House and Garden nutrient, covered them in cling film (for humidity) and left them in the tent (to keep warm) with some cardboard on top (to keep the light out).

This method works 100% and after 2½ to 3 days, they all popped through....

    (day 1)

My last 2 grows have not been up to my usual standards, the main reason being my inability to repot them in time.

This time I was better prepared, I had my Coco ready, and I waited until I only had 2 plants left from my previous grow before I sowed this new lot, so I had enough room for them all, and enough 25L airpots available to use.

I repotted them on day 10, perfect timing...

Day 29 and they had really filled out...
    large.Group.JPG
clockwise from top left... TD, DL, NQ, CJ

The Night Queen was huge, and the Cinderella Jack and Think Different were not far behind. They were all very leafy, so I thought it was time to consider removing some of the larger fan leaves that were preventing light getting to the new shoots underneath. Some of the lower fans on the Night Queen were massive... 6 inches long, 2 inches wide!

So here they are again, yesterday on day 32....
    large.5f05545b73aca_day32Group.JPG
clockwise from top left... TD, DL, NQ, CJ

Lots of tops showing through. I think they're a good size for just a month old. The NQ is 55cm high, TD is 47cm, CJ is 45cm and the DL 38cm.
I find taking fan leaves off the main stem slows the main stem height and allows the side stems to catch up, giving a more even canopy and good long candy canes all round.

Currently they are on an EC 0.9 feed, giving me a run off of between EC 0.6 and 0.7.
I'm seeing pale green tips on the new leaves and they've all started flowering.

I'm planning on increasing the Nitrogen a touch, just to keep ahead of any underfeeding issues, but I don't wanna push it. The TD is traditionally a light feeder, and the Night Queen doesn't like going too hot either, so I may have to start making up 2 different nute mixes.

House and Garden A&B nutes are used together for the whole grow, so I don't have to switch from Veg to Bloom nutes. Instead I just drop the Nitrogen and add Bud XL and Bud Candy instead, giving PK13/14 for a week starting around day 57 (week 9), aiming for harvests around the 80-90 day mark.

TD and NQ are advertised as 70 day finishers, CJ is 70-77 days and the DL 77 days.

Here they are individually on day 33....

They each have a Skyline 400 LED unit above them, on 24 hours a day. Thanks again @muddy-ledhydroponic!

I've been religiously feeding them every 2 days, but starting to do them every day now.

Temps are between 21°C and 25°C and humidity fluctuates between 50-80% depending on whether it's raining or not. Great growing weather!

So there you go, at the moment everything's looking good, but this is usually the stage when the plants get a bit fussy, so I might even give them a flush for a couple of days and push on to the finish.

I hope you'll be there to see how it all ends up. Thanks for looking in, and keep safe!

    Day 50 - early bloom
  • Hi @smokeyfromau and @Quentin3176 thanks for tagging along.
    Hopefully @muddy-ledhydroponic @NG420 @otuaflower @hope2grow @Iriee Vibez @Taipan @Ribbzzy @the green bandit @pop22 @Vapo and @Shiva's Mistress will catch this as well.

Lots has happened with them since the initial post where I showed you them upto day 32... they are on day 50 now, and the tent's at full capacity....
    large.5f1fc5feb311b_day50group1.JPG
clockwise from top left: TD, DL (hidden by the enormous...) NQ, CJ

I decided to play musical chairs and move them all one place clockwise.....
    large.5f1fc60915d4d_day50group2.JPG
clockwise from top left: CJ (hidden), TD, DL, NQ

The main reason for all this arseing around was height... the enormous NQ was near the carbon filter, and the lights were at max level.
Moving them allowed me to have a Skyline 400 light straddling the filter at a comfortable height for the shorter Daiquiri Lime, and I could make use of the mighty Skyline 800 for the NQ ... once again, thanks to Muddy at LED Hydroponics for this superb light.... last time I used it, I pulled 18.5 (dry) ounces of Blue Amnesia.

Here's all my lighting, crammed up into a 1.2m² x 1.2m² wide space!
    large.5f1fc62a34a89_day50lights1.JPG

The Skyline range is great, you can have one unit over each plant and have the flexibility to have them at different heights...
    large.5f1fc6368a16c_day50lights2.JPG

Let's have a closer look at that Night Queen....
    large.5f1fc64111407_day50NQ1.JPG

So, another Teehee monster - I'm just surprised it's a Night Queen... usually the NQ is mid sized and finishes quickly.
This one's not like any NQ I've ever done before, so I had a look in Seedfinder, and they do mention a second phenotype that is very tall and takes longer to flower... this must be it!

I haven't done much with her, just a bit of leaf removal lower down, so here she is in her new position under the 800W Skyline...
    large.5f1fc64c71509_day50NQ2.JPG

Before I moved her, I took a shot without lighting just to show you what I'm dealing with....
    large.5f1fc65b2a372_day50NQ3.JPG

She's on an EC 0.8 feed, and as you can see from the main stem, she's got a long way to go...
    large.5f1fc6684a9c6_day50NQ4.JPG

Think Different is looking great. By far the most advanced of all...
    large.5f1fc677dc6b4_day50TD1.JPG

That was before the move, here she is in her new spot....
    large.5f1fc682eeb26_day50TD3.JPG

Much the same except a little light trimming of lower leaves, and any poxy internal stems that won't get much light.
She's also on an EC 0.8 feed, but she's got 5 days of PK 13/14 going in as well.

From the side window you can see more of her......
    large.5f1fc69134f94_day50TD4.JPG

Lights off gives you a better appreciation of how full of bud she is....
    large.5f1fc69da6752_day50TD5.JPG

Not bad for day 50. She tends to be a quick finisher, and this one's in a hurry to get it done. Dutch Passion say 70 days.

Whenever she's ready, I'm looking forward to consuming her... she's got plenty of grease on them leaves for making Canna Coconut oil, and those buds are gonna fatten up and smoke real good!
    large.5f1fc6adc5425_day50TD6.JPG

Daiquiri Lime is a bit smaller than the beasts I'd previously grown a few years ago. This one's like the one I did in my last grow, short with very dense foliage.....
    large.5f1fc5c618aaf_day50DL1.JPG

I removed loads of leaves to reveal the multitude of tops hiding underneath....
    large.5f1fc5d4d2a47_day50DL2.JPG

....and although she looked a little worse for wear afterwards....
    large.5f1fc5df1681f_day50DL3.JPG

... she soon picked up and she's hopefully going to stretch a bit more and load up....
    large.5f1fc5ee4fa70_day50DL4.JPG

She's on an EC 0.9 feed, same as the Cinderella Jack......
    large.5f1fc5a0e3335_day50CJ1.JPG

..... another short and leafy plant.
I've given her a bit of an internal thin out.....
    large.5f1fc5ad802bc_day50CJ2.JPG

... and moved her behind the Night Queen, out of sight.....
    large.5f1fc5bb71231_day50CJ3.JPG

There you are then, quite a long post, but it's been a while.
Hope you're riding the second wave - stay safe, stay stoned!

    Day 64 - mid bloom
  • Day 64 update

Thanks for popping down under for a look at how things are going.

It's Winter here, so daytime temps are 18-25°C, dropping to 8-12°C at night. Not much rain now, so humidity is 50-60%.
My lights are on 24/7, so it's 20-26°C in the tent, and I'm managing to maintain 40-60% humidity.

The grow is progressing well, all of them are in varying states of bloom.
All beauties and gonna yield a ton but duuuuuude.. that night queen.. holy shizzle.. different gravy brother :d5:
Tee Tee , Bro they are going to be yielding heaps and stunner is the 1.34metre girl :hothot: :pass::kiss:

    Cheers Guys, she's MASSIVE!

Having 4 different strains has meant I've had to be more careful about tending to their individual needs - they are all very different....
    large.5f30de866ef93_day64group.JPG
clockwise from bottom left... (the enormous) Night Queen, (hiding the) Cinderella Jack, Think Different, and Daiquiri Lime
That does it, I have to get some Night Queen! Damn!
I highly recommend this strain, the Photo or the Auto are heavy pure Indicas.
    This one is huge....
    large.5f30de946f953_day64NQ1.JPG

You can see how she towers over the lights for the other plants. She's like a regular plant with these long candy canes shooting out of her.
There's not much room till they hit the lights, which are at maximum height...
    large.5f30dea14b552_day64NQ2.JPG

She's filling out with some nice sparkly bud.....
    large.5f30deaf24dd6_day64NQ3.JPG

I'm giving her the same EC 0.9 feed as Think Different.... the usual House and Garden nutes, with Roots Excellurator, Bud XL, and (Advanced Nutrients) Bud Candy.

Think Different is nearly done - maybe 7-10 days at the most.....
    large.5f30debb4c38a_day64TD1.JPG

She's got plenty of really solid colas.....
    large.5f30dec55810e_day64TD2.JPG

Here's a close up or two....
    large.5f30decd9510b_day64TD3.JPG

    large.5f30ded54f929_day64TD4.JPG

    Daiquiri Lime next...
    large.5f30de58856b9_day64DL1.JPG

She didn't stretch very much, but there's plenty of action under all that foliage....
    large.5f30de651a6c4_day64DL2.JPG

.... and close up, she's looking sweet....
    large.5f30de79736df_day64DL3.JPG

Finally Cinderella Jack, squeezed in at the back behind the Night Queen....
    large.5f30de417617f_day64CJ1.JPG

Nothing remarkable, but up close she's certainly on the right track.....
    large.5f30de4d208d0_day64CJ2.JPG

As the Daiquiri Lime and Cinderella Jack are so similar in terms of structure and development, it's easy to give them the same feed.
Right now, they are on their 3rd of 5 days of PK 13/14 in an EC 0.9 feed. I'll start giving the Night Queen the PK in 5-6 days time.

So... all looking good, TD will be down in less than 2 weeks. CJ and DL will be another 3-4 weeks from now, and the Night Queen 4-5 weeks.

Of course, nothing ever goes to plan, and in true Teetee style, this grow is no different....

    I've got a fucking...

    LANDLORD INSPECTION IN 2½ WEEKS

... which is gonna mean taking down the entire tent, wrapping the plants and hiding them, plus a load of freshly cut Think Different somewhere for a few hours.

We only got a week's notice, but I managed to get a 2 week extension, and she expects to only spend 15-20 mins here and keep it casual.
I'll let you know how it goes.
    :v:

day 85 - just about done now
  • Day 85

OK, so I managed to hide the grow from the Rental Agency inspection.
    Why all the inspections??
It's routine for rental agencies here to inspect the property every 3 months.... such a pain in the arse. The last one was during lockdown, so all we had to do was take some photos.

Not this time!!! On Tuesday night, I set the alarm for 4am (Weds), and set about clearing up the grow room. I had been to the Storage place and got some packing boxes. They have these large 'Porta-Robe' boxes that are perfect for hiding plants in... they're 60cm x 48cm wide and a good 1.10m high....
    large.5f4d7002e4cbf_day085stowaway1.JPG

...and here's Cinderella Jack, all safe and sound.....
    large.5f4d70097182a_day085stowaway2.JPG

Imagine if Interflora could deliver plants like this!

The Night Queen wasn't as simple. I lowered her into a standard packing box, wrapped a load of corrugated card around her to full height, and then plonked another packing box on top. In the end, I had her encased in cardboard, about the size of a fridge, and only just managed to squeeze her into the shed, along with the CJ and DL in the Porta robes, and a box of drying Think Different buds.... all of which stank to high heaven.

On Weds morning, the Electrician came over to check the smoke alarms, then at 1pm the Managing Agent turned up, she spent half an hour chatting with the Missus RIGHT OUTSIDE THE FUCKING SHED, and once she'd gone, I had the whole grow room set up again in a couple of hours.

They are all very close to finishing.... day 85.

Cinderella Jack will probably come down in the next few days. This is how she looked immediately after I got her out of the box.....
    large.5f4d6fd42ddc1_day085CJ1.JPG

She's pushed for space in the tent, but she's loaded with big fat colas.....
    large.5f4d6fda42557_day085CJ2.JPG

Although she's very leafy, there's some nice sticky bud in all of that....
    large.5f4d6fddc5f5d_day085CJ3.JPG

Daiquiri Lime also fared well during the disruption. Here she is straight out of the box....
    large.5f4d6fe23e4de_day085DL1.JPG

She's also been squeezed into the tent, but has a bit of room on the side....
    large.5f4d6fea1c8c6_day085DL2.JPG

Still a week or so to go.....
    large.5f4d6ff15382f_day085DL3.JPG

That just leaves the Night Queen. I'm looking forward to jars of this stuff!!!
    huge plant there TeeTee :pass:

Cheers man, not as big as your Durban Poison, but here she is in all her glory...
    large.5f4d6ff6d8577_day085NQ1.JPG

She's close to harvest as well...
    large.5f4d6ffdacf63_day085NQ2.JPG

Looks like I'll have to sharpen my clippers and get ready for a few late nights this week!

Now that Think Different's down, with the others soon to follow, and having just recovered from an inspection, my mind turns to my next grow.
I'm sick of having to pull everything down mid grow, so seeing that the next inspection will be in 3 months, I sowed some more seeds last weekend, so that they'd be ready before the next intrusion.
I started them the usual way, seeds straight into EC0.7 nutrient soaked Coco. Clingfilm over the top and into a box with a heatpad.
100% success over 20 grows averaging 4 plants per grow.

3 days later they popped through, and here they are on day 4.....
    large.5f4d83b7abc66_day4.JPG

As you can see, Dutch Passion 'Night Queen' (as always), Dinafem's 'Blue Amnesia' (also a big fav of mine), then there's Sweet Seeds Cream Mandarine XL' (that was part of a prize for winning AFN's Plant of the Month back in Nov 2017) and the unlabelled one is Dinafem's 'Cookie'. Read on and you'll see why the 'Cookie' is unlabelled and looking a little worse for wear......

As always, there's some sort of ganja related cock up, this time, I got mixed up sowing my seeds, and like an idiot, I put 2 seeds in one pot, and none in another.
    :wallbash:

I had it all set up, cups filled with wet Coco.... I planted the BA, put the pot down, got my Cookie seed, then couldn't remember which one had the BA in. Sod's law I picked the wrong cup up to plant the Cookie seed.

BA popped out first, followed by the NQ and then the CM, but the 4th cup remained empty, I had a dig around and couldn't find the seed, so I planted another Cookie.

Typically, the very next day, a 2nd seedling popped out in the Blue Amnesia cup, confirming my cock up.... I pulled it out and replanted it into another cup, and it took root. With all the handling, I probably damaged her very immature first leaves which is why she's looking a bit mashed in the pic above.

So now I have 5 seedlings, BA, NQ, CM and 2 Cookies.... and not enough room in the tent to do them all to their full potential.
    :furious:

Because of this stoney balls up, I'm not sure if the BA is actually a BA or if it's a Cookie.... I'll just have to wait and see.
    :eat:

To finish this post, some pests.... For the last 4-5 weeks, I've noticed these tiny little black flies in the tent, on the floor, and around the pots, and when I water the plants, all these bugs come out of the Coco. I put a few sticky traps about, and wiped the pots with some fly spray, but they're still hanging around. I don't see any on the plants themselves, nor under the leaves.
    large_bug3.JPG

Basically I have a Fungus Gnat problem, also called Sciarid flies, so I got some TaNLiN drops to treat it.
    large.Tanlin.JPG

These drops are allegedly harmless to our belioved Cannabis plants, the product is a suspension of bacteria that the gnats feed on and they die.

Fungus gnats on their own are fine (although they can spread Pythium via their feet), but it's their larvae that's the problem.

The larvae feed on fungi and dead organic material in the presence of moisture, so dead roots, old leaves etc are their main target, but they'll quite happily eat the root hairs on the plants or even the delicate new roots of a seedling, and cause yellowing of the leaves.

Looking back at todays pic of my Night Queen, the very bottom leaf is a perfect example, and there's some other yellowing leaves as well....
    day 085 NQ 3.JPG

They say it's caused by overwatering, and that drying out the soil will get rid of them, but with Coco that's impossible because you have to water them at least once a day.

Luckily I've not seen too much damage, the CJ and DL have no yellowing at all.
Hopefully that's the H&G Roots Excellurator doing it's thing and protecting the roots from such attack. Also I use Multizyme which is meant to break down dead roots etc.

Thinking back, I think I've had this problem before, so I have to deal with this NOW. It might explain a few of the odd unexplained deficiencies I've seen in my grows.

    These bastards are absolutely TINY....
    large_bug1.JPG

    large_bug2.JPG

These shots are in the pots for the new seedlings, and I'm pissed off because the gnat larvae could damage them and ruin the grow, but aparrently the TaNLiN drops are gentle enough to work on these too.

I have to add 1 drop of Tanlin per 2 Litres of the usual feed and drench them every 3 days until they're gone, then just once weekly to keep them away. The reviews on the product suggest this stuff works pretty well, so I'll keep you posted.

Hope all is well your way, more soon!

    day 90 - Cindy's down
  • Man, my hands are aching from all this cropping lark!
Last post I was on the verge of taking them all down, well now they are all finally done!

I started on 4th Sept (day 90) and took the Cinderella Jack out of the tent for her final photo call.....
    large.5f6a20b890a4f_day90CJ.JPG

She was made up of stubby fat colas....
    large.5f6a20d65f5c5_day92CJcrop1.JPG

... and a tub of loose stems, again with fairly chunky buds.....large.5f6a20dc2d946_day92CJcrop2.JPG

2 days of chopping and I had her hanging in 2 boxes for 2 weeks, now she's jarred up with some Boveda 62's....
202.4g or 7.14 ounces, and I'm very happy with that. The bud's well sticky and I'm looking forward to seeing what she's like to smoke.

That left the Daiquiri Lime on day 90...
    large.5f6a20bf4e4f3_day90DL.JPG

..... which was still throwing out tons of white pistils, and a bit of foxtailing.....ready to chop!

The Night Queen was also begging for the chop. I had one 800W Skyline above her, plus a 400W going at an angle on the right, to get those buds lower down.....large.5f6a20caea5cb_day90NQ2.JPG

..... I think it was worth the extra light cos she's thick with solid bud!
    large.5f6a20c50254b_day90NQ1.JPG

Higher up, you can see the colas beginning to bow over with the weight!!!
    large.5f6a20d181399_day90NQ3.JPG

I think the Night Queen deserves a post of her own.....

day 92 - It's all about the Night Queen
  • ....so here she is. The Night Queen (Automatic) on day 92.....
    large.5f6a20e0bc400_day92NQ1.JPG

The height of that door is 2.05m.... she is just immense!!!

    From another angle.....
    large.5f6a20e48c506_day92NQ2.JPG

    Her right side.....
    large.5f6a20e89c681_day92NQ3.JPG

    .... and her left side....
    large.5f6a20ed36646_day92NQ4.JPG

I tried to get a shot from above....
    large.5f6a20f01ce93_day92NQ5.JPG

.... a view of her bottom half....
    large.5f6a20f44dfc1_day92NQ6.JPG

... and look at those colas... rock solid every one of them....
    large.5f6a20f782bd9_day92NQ7.JPG

... a little closer and you can see these big long colas full of hard uniform nugs.....
    large.5f6a20fb763d4_day92NQ8.JPG

It took me 4 days to get her down, those long stems were a pleasure to trim up. I had them hanging to dry in a variety of boxes for a good 2 weeks, then box by box I clipped the buds off and set up for the big weigh in.

This is a shot of the dried stems of the main colas (ie just the top part of the plant)... each one is about 45cm long...
    large.5f6a215dbb153_NQharvest1.JPG

Closer inspection shows that it's all sticky and hard...
    large.5f6a2162a60fe_NQharvest2.JPG

... with plenty of amber trichomes to get me hammered....
    large.5f6a21661f901_NQharvest3.JPG

Once I removed the buds from the stems, just this lot weighed 287g... dry.
The rest of the plant came in at 303g.... meaning this Automatic Night Queen yielded 590g (thats 20.8 ounces) of top quality bud!

20.8 ounces from an Auto???? Yes it's true!

This Night Queen has been a true blessing, the test smokes give me the usual blurry eyesight and empty lethargy that I love so much, and it should last well into next year!

@DutchPassionTony this MUST be a record? Thank you SO much mate!

It's amazing how one simple seed can produce such a huge amount of bud.

It's been a while since I've had to buy from a dealer, but let's say at AU$350 per ounce, that's over $7K you've saved me. There's so much good karma coming your way mate!

day 98 - Don't forget the Daiquiri Lime!!!
  • After the HUGE Night Queen:deadhorse:, you'd think 'that's it!' but there's more....

Don't forget the Daiquiri Lime... I had to let her carry on a bit longer while I took down the Night Queen, so here she was on day 98....

I had stopped watering her for a couple of days and she was looking pretty shaggy. Leaves all dried up and drooping, and the buds were foxtailing and beginning to open up.

She was a big bulky girl though, here she is from above...

... and although the buds weren't as tight as the other plants, they were still pretty greasy.....

In the end, I had quite a lot of bud. I had the stems hanging in 3 boxes, here's the biggest box....

... and here's most of it in a big tub after final manicuring, ready to jar up with Boveda 62's....

Final dry weight for the Daiquiri Lime 10.56 Ounces or 299g, which was quite a surprise!

So all in all, another big harvest...

    Daiquiri Lime 10.56 oz (299g)
    Night Queen 20.8oz (589g)
    Cinderella Jack 7.14oz (202g)
    Think Different 8.23oz (233g)

    TOTAL 46.73oz (1324g)

Well over a kilo from 4 plants... that'll keep me happy for the rest of the year! :dizzy:

Many thanks for joining me on the grow, I've got 4 more on the go, currently on day 33... Dinafem 'Cookie' and 'Blue Amnesia XXL', plus Sweet Seeds 'Cream Mandarine XXL' and as always, a Dutch Passion 'Night Queen'.

A couple of potential XXL's in there, so I'll let you know how they get on!
