Still just doing her thing, gonna set up the initial res tonight just to ensure she has a food supply when she wants it :peace:

Morning all, short update.

I made up her initial res last night, 160ml Rhizotonic and up to 0.8 EC total with Canna Start, PH 5.6. Not used to these big doses but I'm liking the idea of not having to change the res every week, gonna have to be on my top up game for this grow!
I filled the res of the net pot with pebbles as I'm certain we'll see roots within the next 2-3 days and until then I give her 5ml from the res every day (top feed with syringe) just to ensure she isn't getting too dry. There is a good 2" gap between net pot and water surface which is a bit larger than normal but I'm hoping the roots will strengthen slightly before hitting the water as they're gonna have to grow out and downwards first, we'll see.

I do try Blue! If life allows me the time I try to always have a grow on..keep putting off moving house but it needs to happen after this one really..short intermission perhaps.
Glad to have you lurking in the background after all this time

Just a few pics, still waiting on those roots to appear - shouldn't be long now. Looking a little yellow but I'm sure we'll be fine once the roots hit water.

id say thats a fine example of why you should fill your res , ive never had a plant/clone/seedling die/drown from airated water and have never noticed roots stop growing when they hit the water in a hydro system , its NOT dirt , not all things apply the same , i do not believe imho you need to force the roots to search for water like in soil , hell my roots have always over grown my buckets by finish , im lucky to fit 2 litres in the bucket once its time to flush

thanks for the post pal , just confirmed things for me

peace

I filled my res to just the bottom of the net pot until I had good roots in the res. Then I ran it with always at least an inch of airspace. The extra oxygen available to the roots helps keep them healthy, similar to what aeroponics does. I've read it also helps prevent root diseases.

lol. I fill my rez up to the bottom of the netpot with the bucket lid propped up, so it probably ends up and inch over its seems like they've drank a litre of water 30 seconds later so they get no shortage of oxygen

ive never run into root diseases so wouldnt know if that gap would help , i have however produced roots above the cube the clone/seed was started in many times

i dont have water at the top of the rocks , just bubbles showing , i fill most of the way , then put the pot/plant in , then slowly top it all up until i can see bubbles , the water level is most likely only half way up the pot when i say full , so a new clone or seedlings roots would only be getting its first water/moisture from bubbles , similar to aeroponics , would be like a mister when bubbles pop , my pot is the 10 inch or is it 12 ? the size of the bucket is round and is 4 inches deep , i think its 4 inches , would have to measure as i got it 20 some odd years ago and dont remember what it was advertised at lol , actually its prolly 6 inches deep

peace
