Sorry just a random question that came up in a conversation with a buddy.

How would a light cycle of 8 On, 4 Off, 8 On, 4 Off effect an Auto-flowering plant?

yeild would be terrible the more light for a auto the better reducing the light to something the plant isnt used to will just mess with them.stick to the basics when growing dont over complicate things and you will grow dank.let em do there thing.just my 2 cents.welcome to afn

I agree with Ukfreak, keep it simple and stick with proven practices.

Thanks for the welcome Ukfreak. Your answer UK was the same as others given in the conversation regarding the yield, but nobody could give a reasonable explanation as to why. Would the plant be finished in half the time needed on 24/7?.

lots of different factors but as for yeild more photosynthesis the more production with more light and as for time it goes on varies things like genetics, conditions etc

ive got mine on currently at 22/2

Cool. I had a quick look at your set up nice light BTW. I Have never grown with Autos but have had a bit of experience with photoperiod plants. From my experience I believe that MJ do best with a "sleep" in the veg stage as they perform "lights out duties" in this time. If you run a 22/0 I assume you believe as well. I would also push this belief to include a "sleep" for Autos in all stages of life. Have you heard of the DLI (Daily light integral ...amount of PAR that hits the Earth is rarely more than 30 mol) Cannabis has a DLI of around 25mol per day after that a saturation point is reached where additional light is wasted. From my calculations a light producing 1000 micromol could achieve saturation point(30mol) in just over 8 hours, the plant then given 4 hours "sleep". The effect being 2 x DLI in a 24 hour period....... which should equate to awesome bud......or would the Auto flower finish in half the time?

Unlike photo plants, auto's start flowering according to age, and they have a fairly specific window as to when they can be harvested for optimum yield/potency. They are genetically given a start and "end" date. the light cycle will not change this. The optimum window can be somewhat subjective, from grower to grower, depending on preference, but if a breeder says 75 days, it is usually within a small window on either side of that. Visit a few of the grow journals here, and you will see that 20/4 seems to be the go to schedule for most. And while your formula, in theory, has some awesome possibilities, remember, keep it simple. If you want to try it out, go for it, and then at least you will know, for yourself, vs just relying on someone else's word for it.

I have grown photo strains for quite some time, and am still very new to AF strains, so i may be somewhat mistaken. I am giving my 2 cents based on 98% what I have read, and seen on this site, and 1 auto plant that i have grown.

I think your biggest problem with that schedule is knowing when you can water.

I think the 2 light cycles per day might screw things up....how about a shorter day? 20 Hrs on 2 Hrs off...22 hour day...programming the timer weekly might be a pain....personally I think mother nature does the best job determining the day/night cycle
