Hi all! Very excited to be here. My seeds came yesterday so I'm trying to set up asap. I have a large cabinet 3ft wide, 6ft tall 18 inches deep. I am going to only use top half since i am only growing 2 plants. I have nirvana auto blue mystic and nirvana auto short rider. As funds are limited, I am looking at either (6) 23w 2700K wint (6) 23w 6400K OR (1)125w 2700k and (1)125 6400K. I am planting in 1 gallon pots. If i go with the 23w I can distribute them all around and above the plant. With the 2 large bulbs they will be above the plants. What do you think? Thanks and I am so happy to be starting this adventure --- its about time.

Start with the 6500k bulbs for vegging and go to 2700k when you see her starting to flower.

hey buddy my very first grows are journaled on here somewhere. i have the same cabinet a 18" deep 6ft tall 3ft wide metal cabinet you can see my set up and what i did right and wrong. i did it all myself pretty cheap. first grow was under name prezdickie but that was before the meltdown i'll try to find you a link.

this link should show the cabinet set up from way back in the day. best of luck

wago connectors are a good way to split the wiring and cut down on plugs. 1 pair of 5-way connectors will run 4 lights with the last for mains power. I would not use them with high output bulbs though but 23w will be okay. It also does not stop the bulbs from working should a bulb blow when your not there. (I have used and tested theses)

This way you have a wire for each bulb as long as you want (2 core) Rather then a wire going from one bulb to the next and so on. Gives more ease of movement and placement in the grow space as by daisy chaining you are restricted to the length you set between each bulb. I hid my connectors, one for each plug inside a large junction box, just to be on the safe side.

Think something like this. rather then one wire for all.

Thanks for the tips and all.. love seeing that blue mystic! Can't wait to start. My cabinet is going to be super simple...just a fan, some lights and a pc fan for exhaust. The room my cabinet is in has a double exhaust fan that is installed in the window -- its where the cat box is...and I NEVER smell the cat box. Last month in anticipation of the grow I did not clean one of the litter boxes for 6 weeks -- I have 3 cats, It was NASTY. Not one bit of smell into the house. Had to toss the box, it was uncleanable, but I am thinking that will be my odor control -- the fan not the litter box.

I would love to string the lights together using those wago connectors and some cheap sockets - i could never build anything like that light fixture, I am not really very handy. One reason I wanted to do auto's is that I couldn't figure out how to seal out light completely - might try some of the tips int Prez2.0 grow journal. But this first grow, I want to be as cheap as possible since i am broke from buying the seeds!

best of luck, keep us posted put up a link if you start a new grow log for it

I did start a new grow log in the new growers section. So for now I have 2 x 125 w 6400k cfls in my small cabinet 3ft wide 18 inch deep 4 ft high. Growing 3 plants in 1 gal. pots. Hanging cfls vertically cause I've got those mogul socket cords...rigged a reflector over the 2 of them, lined cab with mylar. Plants are 4 leaves right now... So lights are up about 8 inches above the leaves. Had them lower but was 85 degrees at plant level. Please jump over if you have time. I can't get the link to post. Just look for spikerbiker. Cheers.
