I'm no lab tech and am wondering what I would have to buy to start testing for GMO's at home. I want to verify all my strain's are non-GMO as I intend to starting juicing and eating cannabis seed. Any information surrounding this subject will be helpful.

Thanks

I don't work in that industry; but a few quick search and reads online seem to indicate that it's costly to detect GMO's, that they can only be detected one at a time (part of the cost,) that the strain's DNA must be known in order to check against the DNA sequence, and it's probably something (at least at this point) that can be or is best to be done only in a laboratory environment.

Again, I'm not an expert in the field so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but if it were me in your shoes faced with this problem, I would e-mail/ask the breeders of your seeds (if they are known) if any genetic manipulation has been done in a lab. Check the breeder websites and grow journals. Unless it's labeled, you most likely won't know unless you ask.

Hope that helps. Maybe somebody a little more into the GMO scene could point you in a better direction bro!

It's pretty much impossible to go non GMO, whether you modify through a selection process or by deliberate mutation everything we consume is GMO.

Have a read of this Richard Dawkins on GMO for a more levelheaded chat about GMO.

Thanks SoH, Some good info I had no idea about. I know one breeder who has a complete landrace line from the countries he's traveled too. landrace strains are personally my best option for juicing and seed eating for extra reassurances against GMO. I wish these big seed companies would do testing on their strains. I would pay the extra bill to know I'm getting non-GMO in all categories. I'm looking at cannabis seeds as major source of protein to add to my vegan diet and really don't like the thought that they might be GMO.

I personally don't agree with him. We didn't have labs tampering with the plants natural DNA 10,000 years ago. It just started happening within the last hundred years. GMO in my opinion is tampering with DNA's "natural" structure.

If you check out Genetically Modified Foods in America Health Documentary. You'll see just some of the damaging and negative mutative effects lab created GMO's have on humans. It literally kills and mutate the body. If you find a link to the video let me know. Monsanto like's to remove such to keep people unawares.

I think your fears are unfounded, mainly because there is nobody producing and selling gmo cannabis seeds.
All seeds/genetics availabe are to some extent modified, just not selected genes but whole sequences of them. And by the way, I agree with mr Dawkins on this matter.

Who's to say your favorite strain wasn't developed in a lab. It's not that hard to introduce cannabis to someone and say it's the best strain they've ever had. Monsanto came out and said they would genetically modify every plant in the world. I don't want a Bt infused cannabis plant in my garden or anything along those lines. You can believe whatever you like. Natural mutation is natural. Having someone in a lab infusing all types of harmful genes is not.

You should probably watch the video I posted as well. It might open your eyes to the very real threat of lab GMO's

We've been genetically modifying plants since forever. The concern as I understand it is the ones that are modified horribly, Frankenstein kinda stuff

Some of the stories are terrifying. Plants producing chemicals that make insects delirious, so they forget to eat and die of hunger

Would you like fries with that?
