Hey guys i been an LED grower using blackstars but i have been thinking about switching over to HPS since i will be growing photo's. So i have a 4 x 8 x 7 foot tent. was thinking about two 600 watt hps Air Cooled Hoods. But what about running two 1000 watt HPS's and putting the ballast at 50 percent? Any thoughts? Would this still equal out to 600 watts?

No experience with digi ballasts,but im sure someone will be along promptly.
I do know that the 600w are supposedly the most efficient wattage vs lumens

sorry but... 4x8x7 is that 4w x 8w x 7h?

1000 hps not great for any tent... 600w much nicer... and mh and hps much better than either alone.

Yes my tent is 4 foot wide 8 foot long, 7 foot tall.

stick with the led's if you can afford it...

Heat will be an issue, in a tent you will need cool tubes...and then with the tubes your light efficiency will be diminished. even with 2 600 you will need tubes...

I don't think you get proper spectrum when You dim a 1000 in half either.

From what I've heard the HPS bulbs are not designed to be stepped down and it shortens their life. It think the light per watt is best at 600W. A 600w digi is about equivalent to a 1000w magnetic.

at least 2x600w or 2x1000 would be better at full power in flower
but you will need a massive outake
4x8 is 32 / this by watts
50 psf is a very good target
running 2x lumateks 600w with the extra lumens with extra lumen switch with an indica dom hybid strain will be fine but no 100% sats or sat doms

if it was me 2x600w id go for if its a cash cropper in hydro id go for the 2x1000w or if growing sats or sat doms
