Lighting KIND K3 DIY Retro Build

Now I'm looking at the citizens clu058-1825. Thanks @pop22. Hope they don't get outdated in the next month

You think I can get 4 citizen clu048 on this driver or an I pushing it @BigSm0

?

No way. 3 clu's per driver. What would be nice would be 2 of those being more efficient and taking out the 6 kind drivers. You could use the kind drivers for single cree 3590's or maybe the citi cobs

The hlg185 series drivers. Your build will be much better and probably a little safer if you ran a second hlg instead of the 8 under powered kind drivers. You would be able to run 3 citizen cobs per driver and then 6 for that light which would be sized real well too. Plus at a higher amperage which I'm sure 6 at 1050ma would be much better then 8 at 650ma.

The k5 has different drivers then the k3. It has two at 30-40v@1180ma and five at 40-48v@1180ma. Seems the bumped it up

So the first pic is the mother board. It basically recieves the input from the 7drivers on the top and separates it on the bottom. There are 4 drivers for red,2 for blue, and 1 for white. You'll notice on the bottom each color has 4 outlets corresponding to each heatsink/banks. The second pic is one of the four heatsink /banks. I tested each color and it came red(A1) @49.45v, blue(B1) @16.5v,white (C1) @11.6v. When you add the designated drivers and total outputs it all adds up so I'm assuming my labeling is correct. Now the question is at they're any cobs with voltage that life? If not I'll jump the motherboard.

No 36,50 and 72 are the cobs you would probably want to stick with. There are hundreds of cobs available and I find more every day but these 3 voltages are your best options.

What I meant was to ditch the drivers in the k3 and just add in 2 hlg185 since you already have 1 and the other is $40. Then you could use those k3 drivers somewhere else. The k5 is another story.

Oh I see. Yeah that would work. Going to try to jam that driver in. The length is the same but the wires are so thick it makes it really tight.
