What can I say... brother Stunted inspired me!
I kind of blurred out this idea over at his thread and just couldn't stop thinking about it.
I just had to do it :D I was going to call it "Nano-DWC"... but I can see where would could further downsize this setup, so I'll leave that door open for someone else... :smoke:

Pretty self explanatory, but here's the run down;

6L/m airpump... tried to get an airstone in there but was impossible. I had one that fit in the syringe, but I couldn't get the airline through the hole and wasn't bothered to cut through

Bad shot, but good bubbles :cough:

A dry root riot cube will fall in. Wet it expands and fits quite snuggly. Even still, a little precautionary safety "strap-on"

The adventure begins!!

A little under-shot for my space (1.2x1.2x2m), but I hope for a fun ride.

Should be needing some food soon... have no idea what to feed. I have biobizz nutes that are absolutely not good for this, Canna Coco and Formulex. I think I'll go with formulex and see where it takes me. I've never really understood formulex, even at 1/4 strength the EC is way to high... I'll start with my comfort levels of 0.8 @ ph 5.6 and take it from there.

BTW, this is my very first DWC ever so go easy on me :D (if one can call it that...)

:twist:

lol. "surprise mix"

Surprise, it's a giraffe. :roflcry:

This is sweet dude. Genius to use the airline with the syringes opening. That was a good move. You'll have some weird root issues though maybe... I wonder if there's gunna be any room for bubbling water if that whole thing fills up with white stringy bits. Anyway, I'm in dude - let 'er rip. Looks awesome.

Hey grado! Wazzup! Glad to have you

I hope so! It will be a sign I'm doing something right!... I really wanted to fit an airstone though, just for effect. But I'd have to cut the syringe-needle thing out, put the line through, then glue/silicone it water-tight. I do have silicon but quite frankly I'm not a very proficient handy-man. Apart from the mess, I'm sure I'd just f*ck it up beyone repair :help:

But I was thinking about it, and the thought has occurred to me that the airline may/will clog up with roots. I have an idea for a filter, but for now let rock this thing as it it. Quite noisy them little bubble, I can hear them over the fans  ... my GF is certainly not going to like this. I wasn't expecting the noise at all... hmm, now that I think of it, maybe an airstone will help with this... those are big bubbles!

Could you super glue this to the bottom of the syringe? Like... use pliers or chop sticks (you can use chop sticks right?) and set it down right into the bottom - it might require a bit of work, but there are tiny air stones out there. TBH a mini-dro or dwc has been in my mind for a while. I was thinking a coffee can sized grow though... you got me with the syringe ;) Like I said man, that's pretty sweet.

amazing bro. looks very pro.:wiz:
:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::peace::peace::peace::peace::peace:

hahaha! Thanks Grado and bam-bam... I must confess, I still chuckle at the though of this.

Yeah, sooo... my girlfriend heard the bubbling noise and immediately said "I dont think I can sleep over that!"... :joint:
But she is a nature lover and cannot bear the thought of letting the little thing die off... so she is willing to put up with the noise while I figure something out. Funny that right next to it is a 60L/min pump that makes no noise because the bubbling on those is in a big big tank with stones and lots of water. So I'm guessing that much smaller air bubbles will lessen the noise significantly.

arg!! Guess I'll have to cut the syringe after all and try my luck at water-tightening the end result... BTW grado, my airstone is very similar to the one you posted.

I'll report back ASAP :toke:

Lol bro you come up with some crazy ideas! All knowledge brother!

I myself have got a DWC plan on the go at the mo. I'm going to try a BioDWC which is an organic one. One I get some more nute (AN) and they are all good for DWC. Also looked into getting a bio filter for a fish tank, will clean my water and look after my mycorrhizae, which will be busy at work colonising my res :D and as I'm not doing RDWC. Iv read not to do fresh res changes and just top up each time. I'm only concentrating on my pH, but Organics is pretty good and stays set and EC will just be a pain. I can't see why it won't work. My DWC will be a living bio-active home :D
What you think bro?

:pop: another fun thread to watch! subbed in! :peace:

Did you bring beer? haha... just kidding! Grab a chair and make yourself comfy! I have absolutely no clue how this is going to play out.

Hey Kip! Glad you came.... I'd love to throw some ideas around to whomever is willing!!...

I've been in contact with biobizz, because I'm, doing biobizz nutes in coco. They do not encourage it at all, as a company, but applaud my efforts to try it. So far, results are amazing. But, technically speaking, it should not work. One thing is for certain in my meager experience with them... Feed to medium, no problem so far... Feed to a rez, algae, green stuff, precipitates etc start to form almost immediately. Even bubbling water with only Root Juice will precipitate. Very risky stuff, but absolutely 100% willing to try it out! It is a dream to do OMRI compliance in hydro (thing DWC, aquaponics, etc)
So please do let me know of what you're up to. Feel free to hijack my threads anytime bro! :smokebuds:
All in the name of a greener tomorrow! :head:

Here is a paste of a response I got from them. Remember, coco is essentially hydroponics (apart from CEC consideration)

Thnx for your mail and your enthousaism!

Let’s go over your questions and keep simple. Because that is what Biobizz should be all aboutJ

1: Biobizz products are primarily for growing on soil. Bio-grow, Fish-mix and Alga-a-Mic are not suitable for growing on coco. You use a Coco base nutrient and you can use Bio-bloom, Bio-Heaven, Top-max and Root-juice as additives to boost quality as well as quantity. These products last up to 5 days in a tank/reservoir. Bio-grow won’t even last more than 24 hours. When you use the products on soil, water 1-3 times per week, depending on water consumption of your plants. Use Biobizz minimal every second watering

2: use Fish-Mix during Veg and Bio-grow during flowering. Fish-Mix is a powerfull nutrient, which will boost microlife in your soil. Bio-Grow does this as well, but it’s main feature is it’s content: pure liquid sugar. This will benfit taste of your crops. So best use this during flowering. Fish-mix during flowering will make the plants to leafy.

3: there is no such thing as artificially creating the perfect pH, not when you grow organically. Anyway, it is a big misunderstanding amongst growers that you should measure the pH in the water. When your plants grow in water, ok! Nut when they grow in soil, you should measure the pH in your soil, not in the water. Let the soil create the perfect pH for you. When you water the plants, the Biobizz products start to decompose inside the soil. This process will cause a naturally balanced pH level. In Veg it will be around 6,2 to 6,3. As the plants start to flower the pH will climb gradually to about 6,5

4: Normally, when you have base water with a pH of 7,5, you should end up, after adding the products, with a pH of around 7,1-7,3. This would be spot on. The med farms in Israel we sponsor water the plants with the same pH levels, and have remarkable results. But it is impossible that your pH drops 3 full points after adding such a moderate amount of Biobizz. Our pH levels of pure products are between 4,8 and 5,5 but they cannot cause a drop of 3 points.
