Here is my second grow journal at the AFN and I’m excited to bring you a Canna-Cheese from Mephisto Genetics. She is in a 5 gallon smart pot that is made up of a homemade recycled soil. I reamended with home made worm casting, home made insect frass, some BAS dry amendments and added worms and a cover crop before planting. I’ll be cutting the cover crop down as the plant gets a bit larger. I also top dressed with malted barley.

This is my first round using Blumats, so I’m excited to see how the watering works using this system from start to finish.

The plant is under a Kingbright 240watt 3500k LED setup. The room is about 70F and humidity fluctuates on the lower end right now. My humidity controller and setup is currently helping me dry some bud from the last harvest so I’ll bring that back in once the bud is done drying.

I just got some alfalfa meal that I’ll be using to make a tea every once in a while to feed the plants with

Let me know if you have any questions.

edit: I guess I should include my pictures right?

Not much to report right now on my canna cheese. I’ve been spending some time getting some additional seedlings set up on my blue mat drippers and early on in the girls we all know that takes all the time for these babies are going. This is after one week. The discoloration on the leaves that you see on the cover crop are from my inoculant spray I have beneficial microbes. I’ll post another update soon.

Today is day 19 of my Canna Cheese. She seems a bit behind my Galaxy brain where she was around this time but she is growing well. She has been fed only water except for some recharge and aloe on Monday.
My last Canna Cheese hermed and stopped producing after a short time flowering. I’m hoping to have better luck on this girl!

They are great to be honest. I left for the weekend and didn’t have to worry about anything. I still need to add on some drippers so I get a more even watering but I just fill my reservoir right now about once a week and I’m good.
I wonder how I survived before the blumats . The one downside I have is getting them balanced properly but once I dial it in, it’s set. I might Bret the blumat soil moisture meter so I have a better eye on my eyes water level.

Please post what you do, I’m interested. I currently use Autopots and they are perfect for me. However, I reserve the right to get smarter.

Well I do think they are relatively the same in terms of concept of how they work. Auto pots are not a flexible as the blumat system is though. Autopots you need to use their setup while blumats can fit any system you have. As an example outside I have large 4x8 beds, I can irrigate these using the blumats, I wouldn’t be able to do that with the autopots.

Here we are at about week 4. The ripped leaf was due to a sticky fly trap I was removing that got stuck on some leaves. (Sorry baby) I think the growth in my current space (first time growing in this space) has been a bit slower then expected as the humidity has been quite low. However I do some some other beans from another breeder going on in here that have been growing quite a bit faster so we will see how it turns out.

I’ve since added two humidifiers and am slowly building up the humidity in the room. The weather is getting warmer so hopefully soon I can go back into my normal space. She is still being fed by the blumats and I have just top fed a little each week, about 1-2 TBLS of dry amendments (craft blend and other personal mixes).

On a separate note: I’ve started some Chemdog #4 x T-1000 photos to start getting ready for my
move back into my other space and to prepare for my outdoor grows.
