hello everyone I had a quick question regarding feeding in auto pot systems.

The soil I will be using is organic slow release, it has enough nutrients for the first few weeks, I’m aware I’ll have too hand feed before connecting all the pipe work.

Later stage in veg I want too top the plants with a high rich nutrient tea made from bottle fertiliser... so it won’t be too sticky or glumpy, it will be very watery and I don’t want too add it too th reservoir either, I know there’s a test too do too see if it desolves or not, but then I don’t want nothing fermenting. And me being lazy I only want too fill the reservoir with plain water...

Also I want too add some bat guana tea in flowering ?

So basically can I top feed, will it effect any mechanisms in the auto pot if the water hits it... I can’t really be too careful, unless I spray the nutrients through a spray bottle and hope i saturate the medium

Really confused lol....

Hi sweetie! When I first started I asked the same thing. I was told that I could top feed with anything I wanted....just not to add anything organic or such to the res bucket or it might interfere with my base nutes or clog the lines. I plan on adding some Kelp and quano feedings topside when my ladies are a little larger. I am just passing along what I was told....maybe some more experienced people could come in and let us know their opinion? I drove everyone crazy with questions when I first started (and still do) so remember that is the only way we learn. Good luck hon!!

Ask Josh on the autopots site is a good option too.

I am starting my 6th autopot grow. I have never top watered or fed from top in any of my grows. I was advised when I started using them that after the plant is established (weeks on the res or bottom watered) the top 4+/- inches collects concentrated salts (and you will note this section of the pot stays mostly dry). Yop watering is said to "release" these concentrated salts (nutes). Do whatever you wish but I would advise against heavy top watering after mid to late veg. Your results may vary. Best of the best.

If you are only putting plain water in rez then don't bother hooking it up. The water will only saturate so far from what i understand. If you are top feeding then let run off fill the rez built in to pot stand. But if you are planning on all nutes being put in through top it won't work. Water won't reach that high and with both combined you may drown them

Please listen to @Screwauger and do not top feed. Even the manufacturer warns against it for the reasons he stated. I have been growing in autopots for over two years, with both the 8.5 & 15 liter pots, and have never top fed any of mine after putting them on the reservoir.

If you want to amend with something that might grow in the rez, turn off the reservoir and allow your trays to empty and add it directly to the tray. When your plants are going strong they can empty the tray in an hour or two. This is how I add Recharge or other bacteria. I mix it up and add 500ml at a time directly to the trays allowing for it to be sucked up into your growing medium. If it doesn’t dissolve well, then I would strain it before adding to a tray. I haven’t used any beneficials that I couldn’t dissolve enough to use directly in the trays. Although, I have never tried bat guano so YMMV.

I’ve grown organic with autopots and hooked up the reservoir with plain water with no issues. It was actually the easiest grow I’ve done with autopots. I was using the BioTabs starter kit and after adding the pots to the reservoir I never top fed them again.

So how do they get nutes if you have plain water in res and only top dress for nutes? He doesnt have his nutes mixed in soil from what I read. He is wanting to sprinkle nutes on top of soil and not water top.
