Indoor Saving The Old Dragons

A couple of weeks since I posted last. One more week till the larger plant is cut, I did the small one last week.

Since removing the 12/12 hermie from the pot, the little plant quickly looked quite poor, so I must have disturbed the roots. Even though it was a couple of weeks early, I cut it down.

Not a lot of bud lol, but that's not the point...

So this is what I've been after all along - boom!!!

I look to have about 10 or so decent seeds from the little plant, I have a bit more to check once dried fully. I cut the smaller bud from the larger plant, and tested it, but no seeds, so I may have to do with these. As long as they are viable, then 10 seeds should be plenty for the next phase.

As I said at the start, the last plant gets cut in a week. I'll give it a little drying time before starting to hunt through it for seeds, but then that's it for this part. I would start on the next phase now, but my 12/12 crop is still in the tent, and it is getting very cold outside. We're talking at least a month before I get room to do anything with the pips, but that will give them time to do whatever they normally need to do.

I'm also trying to save my old Lowryder #2's,Got them 6+ years ago from the doctor himself before he teamed up with seedsman and all the other crap the company did between then lol Worked them for a little while to get the phenos i liked then kind of got side tracked with all these new fandangled fems from all the other breeders so shoved them away and never really thought about them again till now

Been trying to pop them over the last month or so and nothing makes it above soil or fizzles out with shit leafs etc and dies in a day or two but then found something on reviving old seeds and thought would give those ideas a try,1st was adding a couple drops of hydrogen peroxide in the water when soaking the seeds as its supposed to help soften the shell but no go with those ones either The thing that ended up working for me was sand paper lmao Rolled up a small piece of fine paper about 3" long and taped it so wouldn't unravel then just placed seeds in that and covered the ends with my fingers and shook for about 2 or 3 minutes and what do you know! 4 out of 4 seeds popped in a day or two and sitting under a light now

Quality mate, excellent tippage. I did a few of the original LR2's when they first came out - quality plants. I remember growing one in a Fanta Can on here for a compo - got a 1/2 oz of lovely bud from it.

That’s funny. It was about 15 years ago I first started reading about how to grow cannabis and I remember reading about using sandpaper for germing seeds back then. It may have been advice for starting old seeds? I just remember reading about lining the inside of a matchbox bottom with sandpaper and placing seeds inside the box to shake around and skuff up the shells a bit before wetting them. Glad to know that it works. Storing that one in the bag of tricks for the inevitable time that I have trouble starting older seeds. My collection has far outgrown my needs and it will take years to get through what I have now.... I’m also sure I will buy more because I can’t help it I like collecting them

They claim again thats its supposed to put micro abrasions in the shell to help the water penetrate better but what i think is actually happening is you're shaving a thin layer off the seam of the shell so its easier for it to open

Kind of did a side by side lol Had a few beans already soaked and in paper towels and they were sprouting tails but real slow and shells were barely opening,Tried the sand paper trick and did the soak and placed in towels again beside the others and they sprouted in 1/4 the time and shells opened right up like they should

I have now pulled the larger plant, as getting very cold in the site now. Again not any real bud worth talking about, but there does seem to be a few seeds in it, so all is good.

These last shots are not from an auto, but another plant which has turned black in the cold.

I have about another month for my regular grow to be completed, and then it is onto these seeds to see what happens. More pics of little buds etc soon.

Got a final tally on the seed production, and we now have 23 viable beauties.

The intention now is to start off a set of 10 in about a month, once I'm fairly sure we're not going to get any really colder weather.

The new seeds will be growing on 20/4, while my other crop is in re-veg, so there should be plenty of time to get the next level of work done.

Once I pop the new seeds, then I'll begin to post again. Think I'll probably keep to the same thread, so you won't have to go hunting anywhere.

Well I couldn't hang on long. My other plants are down now & about to start a reveg, so I'm going to do a little more Dragon work. I'm dying to know if my last end result has produced any viable seeds, and how well they grow, as the parents were getting a bit iffy in the age department.

I've taken 10 random seeds from the pack of 20 odd, and put them in the usual box to soak & split. Hopefully there should be some action within the next couple of days. Fingers crossed.
