Hey guys, back for my 2nd grow journal featuring a 3.5 gallon "black widow" DWC bucket from Modular Hydro, Dutch Passion's Auto Mazar and Grow Northern MS0006.

Dropped a bean in a shotglass yesterday and setup the tent and soaking "Growstones" in 5.8 ph water. I've also setup a General Hydroponics drip system to add to the "black widow" air stone. Pics of my setup to follow shortly.

Wish me good karma!

W00t! Subbed!! Welcome back man, super psyched for your second grow (as I am sure you are!) Plenty of karma beaming down to you!!

Question: How far in a 6 inch net basket do I want to place the grodan grow cube? Halfway down or right on top, or right on the bottom?

Disregard the question above, I found a good answer on Grasscity...to put the seedling directly into the medium without using rockwool.

Here's a couple pics of my BB setup rez and the eventual netpot with the growstones and drip system. On the bucket I'm using a cheap PH/Temp remote gauge, found on ebay that constantly monitors PH and temp. The drip system is a cut down 10 inch drip ring to 3 inches that'll eventually be at medium level dripping highly oxygenated water down on the seedling and hopefully get roots down faster. After roots are down past the basket and water level is lowered I'll drop the other air ring in the bucket for the 2nd airpump outlet pushing 4.5l per minute into the bucket.

I also have a mini aquarium chiller and a proper low flow pump head on the way with an 8mm outlet to keep the rez temp at a constant 68 degrees F. Any thoughts on my setup?

Moved to hydro Smeggy :Sharing One:what nutes you running ?>

comments on the set up  ...get a bigger air pump & decent ceramic diffuser & ditch the dripper system part .

subbed & good luck bro

Thanks Dee-Dubya.

Day 2 with the AM seed in a moist towel. I've got the bucket setup and growstones soaking in 5.5ph water for 2 days as well. I'm using Advance Nutrients PH perfect hobbiest line of nutes with the A/B grow, A/B bloom, Voodoo Juice, Overdrive, Big Bud and B-52.

Any reason to ditch the drip feed system? The idea was to use it for the first few weeks to get the roots down fast, then disconnect it and use the 2nd pump outlet for a 2nd airstone getting the full 4.5l per minute air flow. Keep in mind my bucket is 3.5 gallons or 13L. Is my bucket too small or should I have got a 5 gallon bucket?

I'll also be hooking up an aquarium chiller with a 200 liter per hour flow to keep the rez cool.

I think a top drip feed would slow the roots getting to the res mate ?. I could be wrong but they can get lazy in the net pot if they have feed being top fed & take longer . Best to make them go searching for it & get in the bubbles sooner . Plus you don't want your cubes getting to damp either ......

BUT...if im right your planting direct into these grow stones ? ....in that case the dripper may well be a good thing until the roots hit the res as the pump you have is not that strong . Usually (if you have a powerful pump) the spray from the res bubbles is enough to keep the pebbles / net pot wet ... but your 4.5LPM is pretty weak ,even for a 13L res ...check out a "hailea super silent v-20 " or something that puts out that amount .... 4.5 LPM will not grow monsters my friend ,you need 13LPM min & 20 would be better ...not saying they wont grow ,they just wont get huge with that amount of air ,plus it make rot ,slime & other nastys to take hold much easier with less turbulence :Sharing One:

Hailea V20 ordered! Water level is 1 inch above the bottom of the net basket. Gonna drop the bean, root side down into the net basket tomorrow. How deep do I want to place the seedling in the net basket and how much cover do I want on top of it?

ok ...good move smeggster ...you will need some 8mm airline ... 8mm connector & any stone / diffuser will do for 1 grow but a good 1 will last a few & give more oxygenation ... if you need links let me know :kusht::Sharing One:

if your planting direct into the stones then fill the pot about 3/4 with stone ... place seedling & VERY gently fill more stones around her ,just enough to hold her in place ... wait till shes a bit older before filling up to the top

recommend just water till you see a root out the base & then make up the 1st batch of nutes .... full voodoo & grow A+B upto 400PPM :peace:
