where did the term "zip" come from? Better yet what exactly is a zip? I am 47 and all of my life we have used terms that refer to weight. For example , and OZ. That's self explanatory. A half, yea a half oz. A quarter...well you get it. Not clear on this zip. Are you referring to a zip lock baggie stuffed? If its an ounce, why not say ounce or oz.?
When I read someone got 4 zips from the harvest of a plant, are you saying you got a quarter LB.? Oh the LB. stands for a pound. Does 4 zips equal a quarter pound? Why not say Q.P. if so? If a zip is equal to 28 grams, do you say 16 zips or an LB? This reminds me of the Jimi Hendrix song....If 6 were 9.

A zip is an ounce, OZ, onion, etc. Just a different term for the same thing. Yep, four zips would be a quarter lb. I'm not sure the origin, unfortunately.

I think it is a UK thing. I was in the same boat as you until I started hanging out on international forums and read the term being used. You get used to it after a while.

Im in texas and in my circles we use zip to refer to an oz. i think its because u can fit one ounce in a sandwhich ziplock bag!

I've heard it on the east coast. It's street slang, so if you don't want to blatantly say ounce you can just say zip. It probably does come from the zip lock back, that would make sense.

Use zip here in the midwest its spread to all parts of the world.lol

This right here is why it's called a zip. Because a ziplock sandwich bag is just right for an ounce.

OK, I suppose I am showing my age now. Never heard of zips from anyone. It has always been O Z, Q P, Half Elbow or Elbow.

BTW, you all must be growing some dense indica because I couldn't get some of my sati OZs in a zip lock bag with a sledge hammer and pitch fork. :smoke:

BTW, I do remember when we measure by the finger. You got either a 2 finger or four finger lid.

Exactly, back in the day you would get some serious flack for coming out with a real ziplock bag. That shit better weigh heavy or somebody is going to get pissed.
