In agronomy, we cut the yard as soon as we can, seeded yards. It's a fact that chopping it frequently encourages the roots to grow deeper and dumps huge amounts of energy into new growth. If you want a lush yard, mow more often.

For a lush yard never cut more than 1/3 the length. I snapped one of my YDB's last night almost clean off. No pics phone was dead. I'll put some up tonite

I train my outdoor girls fairly heavily. I've been able to wrangle 8foot tall plants down for less than 48". This year I had a 51" auto blue mammoth that was just under knee high.
