Since the price of Bud Factor X almost tripled for me in price I have been looking for alternatives to it. This summer i paid 70.00 CAD. for a liter now it is 130.00 CAD. per liter. I decided to look for a alternative. I also found out what makes Bud factor X what it is CHITOSAN it is not classed as a pesticide but is used asa pesticide against a bark beetle that is decimating pine trees in the north west. here is the msds sheet for Bud factor X. http://www.superiorhydrola.com/MSDS/Bud_Factor_X.pdf. Soemhow this Chitosan tricks the plant into thinking it is being invaded and goes in to resin terp production supposedly. I may be a little off on some of this info so if anyone has any info please chime in but as of now I will never use bud factor x again,

I would presume that between unique AN proprietary (trade secret and/or patented) chemistries and from having put some R&D effort in that the stuff can't be copied. Other products will just be different, even if making similar claims. There are probably many other substances and ways of inducing panic (urge to make resin to protect seeds) in plants, so there could well be other products that work as well or even better and/or are cheaper. But if there were good and cheaper alternatives available, I presume we'd all know about them, if not be using them.

That's a problem with many AN products - they just seem to be the best out there.

I looked into this just last year , I bought terpinator at $30 a liter , its much cheaper then that bud factor $

Shrimp shells are loaded with Chitosan , you can buy shrimp meal in bulk from farm/animal supply houses or a good garden center.

So let's revive this thread.it cannot be that hard to replicate. You can now easily purchase chitosan oligosaccharide powder on eBay.this is the main active ingredient in bud factor x.I am currently researching the ratio.everything I have gathered so far states that bfx is 33% COS.and the usage rate is 2ml per liter and 8ml per gallon.I just received 25 grams of the COS.the place I bought it from suggests starting with 200ppm but I do not have a ppm pen.I sent them a message asking about mix rates yesterday but they have not replied yet.there is also some Epsom salts mixed in.

best of luck to you on your supplement. Iwill ne watching your progress

So OK I have figured out dosing rates for the COS. It is applied at three quarters of a gram per gallon and they suggest once a week. Although I have been applying every three days. I also add half a teaspoon of Epsom salts for gallon along with a calcium stores usually gypsum for the additional sulfur.

I have also started using a product called Vitazyme. This stuff has all kinds of goodies in it from salicylic acid to triacontanol,B vitamins, kelp extracts and a lot of other things. All I know is I've used it twice so far and the results are incredible. Especially useful for plants that are stressed or in too small of a container etc. I am really impressed .

hi there , my last grow i sprayed a mixture of chitosan & salicylic acid on my plants and the flowers changed appearence and looked quite different than before , its hard to explain the way they looked afterwads , its like they put all energy in a defence mechanism ! , it brought the smell out alot more , but watered down the potency i feel , but there was something interesting there , chitosan can get on ebay

i couldnt think of the wording at the time , the change / appearance that happend was the catalexis on the flowers spread out into antenna's ! it was like in this picture to describe the way they changed and sprung out from what was a normal looking bud! to antennas.?
take abit of caution ,i would research first..... i cant say its was the chitosan or both together it was a weird reaction tho
