go for it, as long as temperatures are not an issue it's a good plan.

The area of my house the tent is in usually stays around 68-72°f. Do the T5 fixtures put off a lot of heat? I know nothing about them.

not a lot really, they are quite effective. The cheap LED lights will put out some heat though it's usually directed away from the plants. Either one is quite manageable.
