Lighting My T-5 HO Dealings

yeah ill wind up getting an even sweep prolly across the light.but I just wanna see how much more or less blue seems to be ideal.Any ideas?mine are stock lames man.just plain reds i believe.so if I got 8 bulbs ya think one set or two bulbs(4 bulbs total) on the inner and outter edge(s)..ya like that set up? or something similar...? i cant wait to play with that.

I go no more then two reds per 8 bulb fixture. I think I'll do 3-4 reds last two weeks, while on the super model diet. I had some moby dick auto's that fuckin stretched as soon as I put in 4/4 mix. Had to swap out 2 reds to stop um. Atleast that is how it seemed.

Pop22 your too kind.

So my guess is you liked t5 over CFL? How about differences between wattages with each type of light? What performed better and what put out less heat?

CFL's are gonna generate less heat just due to design as a rule.I always liked T-5's over CFL myself..Didnt know udf ya were talkin to me er not..lol.

Yeah if your looking to upgrade with some cfl grows under you like I did..Maaan,Its awesome..Now im ready for some Leds and mixed spectrum T-5..lol. I personally like the longer four foot t5 cuz a small fan blowing across that surface is awesome on medium man..keeps it nice with my 5X5 tent.I just gotta get a few bucks to buy some bulbs..

Thanks for the tips guys.ill letcha all know how it works out in the coming weeks. Thanks again."AFN smoke out"

I never did cfl just t5 only ever. I too am lookin at leds. 4ft bulbs for sure on t5. They do put out some heat though. In the winter I run um 24/7. Keeps the room perfect even in 0º outside. Of course I have 40-80gallons of water that stay nice an warm too.

Hey thanks for the help fellerz!!I finally decided on a two bulb pack to hep me wee plant out next grow..Thanks again..Very informative and the links were excellent too.Danke !!!:pass:"AFN smoke out"

I just installed some UNO T5 XHOs in my hydro room. 4 bulb fixtures, each bulb is 110 watts, double that of normal HOs. Right now I have some photos in soil less media. Just put them under the new lights a few days ago and switched the plants to 12/12 yesterday. So far the results look impressive, but they are putting out a bit more heat than I expected. This is my first go with T5s and it will be interesting to see how they compare to the FERO LEDs I'm using over the hydro system.

Hey Muddy,
I imagine those 110w bulbs are too hot to touch?

I am interested in how that combination of bulbs and unit works out for you.

I think you can help the heat from the unit itself a bit by adding at least one small computer fan to cool each ballast.
A very small fan attached to one end blowing across the bulbs will help also.

I haven't tried actually touching one of the bulbs but I will and let you know. The fixtures are actually well vented with vents over both the ballast and each bulb. It's more a combination of everything. LEDs, the XHOs, humidifier, co2 burner, chiller, water pump, etc. all running in a closed room. I was also running lights on during the day. I felt that was less suspicious since my electric company uses smart meters. I just put them on 12/12 running lights on from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Temps maxed at 86, which I can live with. I do have 2 fans on the XHOs, one blowing across the top of the plants and one blowing across the top of the fixtures, which are doing a good job in moving the heat away from the plants. I originally was planning on all LEDs and sized my heat pump accordingly. I should have gone one step bigger.
