Hey all,

I have a few questions about pH balance in soil. I remember seeing a good thread here somewhere on pH that had an equation for adjusting your pH in against the pH of your out (runoff) in soil....can't seem to find anything this time around.

I have been growing in soil for some time now with good success. I have been using a mix of FFOF & Happy Frog with no problems until this new batch of both. I am having pH issues from the get go with this new batch....not bad ones but they are there. I have never measured the pH of the runoff before but did this time and it seems pretty low to me for soil at 5.5. The pH in was 6.5.

Does this seem low to you? It seems that you would want your runoff pH at about what you are putting in and maybe slightly less. What do you guys think?

Thanks, Bud:smokebuds:

phchart.jpg i would say yours low for soil :smokebuds:,Peace Kudo.jpg

welcome to the club bro,i always used ffof but same thing happen to me yesterday 6.8 in 5.9 out and she only 11 days old and look like shit....ffof can suck balls im gonna try this new stuff I read about on BIGBUDSMAG.COM called POTTERS GOLD.sounds to b pretty good....

Look at my photos in my profile. All of those plants were grown in FFOF. Seeds dropped straight into soil for germination. 21 plants and only lost 1. since using FF. If your plants look like shit, it may not be the soil. I am sure it is possible to get a bag occasionally that is out of whack though. Without more info it is difficult to diagnose the prob. The soil can be considered "Hot" to certain strains. I have 6 different varieties growing in FF right now and have had no probs. I am an amateur though and always trying to learn. Trial and error.

I think this is what your looking for.

Rough Calculation Guide:

Here's some good info on ph.....
If your runoff pH is higher than your starting pH, use this equation to determine your soil pH:*
Soil pH = Runoff pH + Difference

If your runoff pH is lower than your starting pH, us this equation:
Soil pH = Runoff pH - Difference.

For example, say your the starting pH of your solution before it goes in is 6.5 and the pH of your runoff is 7.0. The difference is +0.5, so using the above equation:
Soil pH = 7.0 + 0.5*
Soil pH = 7.5

If your starting pH is 6.5 and your runoff is 6.0, your difference is -0.5 and using the above equation:
Soil pH = 6.0 - 0.5
Soil pH = 5.5

like I said... I to have always used ff .but its different now IT SUCKS ASS...you will soon find out yourself....

Yeah...i think so too, KUDO. Thanks. :smokebuds:

yeah faded....I knew other people were having problems with some batches. My problems are very minor...just a touch of leaf tip curl but it pisses me off none-the-less. Thanks for the input and I'll take a look at the Potter's Gold. :smokebuds:

Thanks GoAuto6! That is exactly what I was looking for.

I run Happy frog and Ocean forest some times. Your tip curl if it is pointing down might be from the Ocean forest being a little high in Nitrogen, I ran too hot on the OF last grow.
