Root riots etc. don't seem all that prone to overwatering as long as they're not completely soaked. Just keep them nice and moist but not so you could squeeze water out of them. Take one prepped as you've done and look at the color, feel the weight. Check out the weight of saturated and dry cubes and you'll get a feel for the right amount of water. They'll look lighter in color if they're getting too dry.
Clear plastic party cups make good little mini-greenhouses. Just make sure to take it off shortly after the seed shell comes off, otherwise there's a chance of damping off and the poor baby will just fall over and die.
Just as an aside, Gurney's Seeds has a great deal going on their version of seed starters until early Feb. Def. going to pick some up. I particularly like the floating styrofoam holders. They take the worry out of over- or under- watering.
I put my rapid rooters in a tupperware bowl and set them on top of my LED. I dont soak the seeds just drop them in and cover them up. I also put about 1/4" or water at the bottom that the RR sit in. It helps keep them saturated and create good humidity. I was getting about 50% success with other methods ( personal seeds I made). Last time i popped 14/15.
