Seeing how fast I just went through 30lbs of worm castings I decided to just collect my own. I'll be making a worm bin.
Does anyone know if redworm castings or African nightcrawler castings are more nutritional?

I'll be keeping the worms indoors so I may make 2 bins and use one type of work in each to compare. Any help is appreciated

I like the African ones, they taste more like chicken.:roflcry::roflcry::roflcry:

I know the local source I used to buy from was using red ones from Europe.

The red ones compost alot faster than nightcrawlers so they are usually preferred because of that. I've never heard of any difference in the castings. I'd love to see a side by side of the two. :peace:

I'm going to start with one bin of red wrigglers then after I get the hang of it I'll start a second bin with African nightcrawlers. I have my bin built and just need to order worms.
I'm using 18 gal bins that are 24in x 16in if I remember correctly. Should I start with 500 or 1000 worms? Or more?

The material that goes in as their feed will probably have a greater effect on the nutritional quality of the material that they produce

Please explain this.

I don't fully understand the statement. ARe you saying that using the compost without the worms would be better than the worm castings...

OR...

Are you saying that what the worms are ingesting is as important as the product that they produce?

just for clarification my friend.

Peace

I've got 2000 worms in a space that's almost 3 x smaller then your bin...

Eek I believe he is saying that you can feed your worms certain things that will benefit the castings they make. It's true.
