Lighting KIND K3 DIY Retro Build

Do you think the citizen cobs are better than the Cree?
Sorry dudeski. The Cree is much better for efficiency but the citi can be driven a little harder. I guess it all depends on what your looking for. Either cob still puts you way ahead of hps or blurple. Plus the citi is fairly inexpensive considering.

So I'm looking at roughly $100-$150 to retro this kind k3 @BigSm0 . Basically 4 citizens clu48 3500k cob with the holders and some miscellaneous material. Oh and the reflectors.

Plus you end up with around 60 dollars worth of stuff for next build. It's kinda crazy reading forum posts from 2014 when some of the cob pioneers were first messing with this stuff. They deserve real credit for figuring it out first off but then to lay it all out on how to do it. I'm still reading daily on what they have done and continue to do daily.

Im grateful that you and all those pioneers took the time to try new things @BigSm0 !
It encouraged me to dig a little deeper, and im pretty dumb on the subject. I just hope the led manufacturers keep the cobs affordable.

Oh man I only wish I was intelligent enough to figure this stuff out. The basics are laid out nowadays thanks to the YouTube series from growmau5. Do you have any builds dudeski? Or future plans to build? If not be warned its addicting lol.

Yes big, converted one mars and have most of the parts for a modular build. Using 3590s. Its in the diy section

Would like to find 2700k and 6500k chips with equivalent output to round out the spectrum in the tent.

That's why I always liked adding supplemental LEDs. 3500k is enough for full cycle but it could use some help. Plus they give a more even spread then centered cobs and better for blending.

Actually, the citi 1812 is very close to the CXB 3590 in output and efficiency and the 1818 matches it at low to mid power, then exceeds its efficincey at high power. the 1825 just plain kicks the 3590's ass! and look at the performance to the CLU042 -1212. A $12, 36V chip.......
