First and foremost, I'm not try to start a flamewar.

My question is, at what point does your price per kWh deter you from what you do?

I see people here that run 1000w HPS, for me that would cost me almost $10+ per day on a 20/4 cycle. That's just lights.

Really what I'm getting at, is if power costs you what it cost me, what would you do?

I use LED and floro only. I do take a cut in yield but since I just grow for myself and as a hobby I don't really mind. Just my two cents

I also only use hydro for my flowering plants (soil for males). This seems to increase yield and quality... Again, just my two cents

I'd absolutely would love to grow LED. My point mainly is, when would you bite that bullet and change your ways. What is that threshold for just about anybody to say, "enough is enough".

I run a 400 watt MH 24 and a 1000w HPS 18/6 my bill is like 200 per month.

for me, it's worth it for a couple reasons. i know exactly what i'm smoking and what has gone into it. and the main reason i started growing was that i was always getting overcharged, and even if i'm not the most efficient grower, it's still cheaper (per weight) for me to grow my own. and as i get older it gets harder for me to keep those "connections" to good stuff and good deals. so i just make my own. and another added bonus, for me, is that i find the gardening kinda therapeutic. it can be frustrating at times, but it's usually peaceful and relaxing for me, watching the plants grow, reaping the rewards, enjoying my own work. so i factor that in as well.

i guess i look at it like, for what i spend on electricity, supplies, etc, am i getting at least that amount in return, if i had to pay full retail price? most of the time, i'm getting a sweet deal!
i do have to remind myself of that sometimes, when it's time to pay the utilities bill. but when i look at how much i pay and how much i harvest. it's still working out in my favor.
for example, a standard 1/8 (of kind) around here runs about 40-60, so an oz would be around 400 at that rate. i don't spend that much each month, and overall i get way more for my money.

btw, right now i run one 400w hps, a 150w hps, and a 200w cfl

i guess there could be a point at which it becomes more cost than it's worth, but the satisfaction of growing my own is very appealing to me. it would have to cost me more (in time and money) than i could buy it for, for me to stop.

If it's not a commercial operation a person can keep themselves well supplied w/ weed w/ about 160-200 true watts of quality LED ... if 1000 watts is $10 a day then 200 watts is $2 ... would it be worth it to you to produce 2-4 ozs of organic quality bud every 3 months for $60 a month in power ? Never having to go looking for it again is priceless ...

If you're in an area where heat is an issue, LED is the answer ... :thedogsbollocks:

Your electricity price must be outrageous!
I run 7- 600 watt HPS 18-6 with fans, pumps, controllers and a reservoir chiller.
I'm still under 10 dollars per day.

I grow for the sheer pleasure of it!! In fact, I would much rather unzip the tent, prop my feet up and watch "BUD" TV and I wouldn't care what it cost!! I smoke it 4 maybe 5 times a year, take a drop of tincture 4-5 times a year, and divy out the rest to family and friends and dont make profit at all. I am a mmj card holder. I do it legal so the fuzz cant f*ck with me. But that doesn't work for everybody. I have a great job, my wife has a great job, and she knows that growing, is what makes my voices go away!!! I don't give a crap what my energy comsumption is, or how high my light bill is. In fact, I set the thermostat on 85* in the house during winter, because I like wearing shorts year round!!! And when I unzip the tent....I can wear my sunglasses....kind of like going to the beach
