Live Stoner Chat Let's talk sports cars..

Mmmm Sports Cars!

In '73 I had a 1965 Triumph Spitfire! Loved that thing all 1147cc's. Then a 1975 TR-6, that thing was deadly. Then in 2002 (2nd Childhood) got a 2000 Miata. Those are Sports Cars in my mind; loved the big Detroit muscle too, but somehow the little two seaters won my heart.
LOL. I love this thread! I had a 1972 Spitfire that I drove for 5 years. Loved the car but at the same time it could piss me off. Open up the front end and I could sit on the front tire and change points and plugs. Extremely easy to work on. We had a lot of fun in that car. I've had a lot of cars and motorcycles over the years but I'll never forget that Triumph. Majorly into Harleys now but want to branch out into Mustangs. Kind of looking for an edge bodied GT Stang 5 spd for in the near future. Pipes

I drove a miata a couple years ago, such a fun car almost go kart like handling! I owned a 89 Honda crx hf which if I remember had a 1.5l engine and no power steering. It was so light it could be lifted by the rear wheel arches and turned 180 degees in a parking lot by two average build guys lol. it was almost gokart like like the miata but it accelerated very slowly lol. I couldn't complain because the thing got like 45mpgs no matter how hard I drove it and it took a lot of abuse! I even took it on a 12 hour road trip no problems! My poor Mach 1 did that trip 3 times which is probly why my poor back is so messed up now that I think of it lol.

I had a friend who had an MG Midget. I drove it more than he did! I loved that little car! the engine was only 850cc, geez, I had motorcycles with bigger engines! I always liked the TR-6, would have liked to owned one. Ohh, I had a 1959 Austin Healy Bugeyed Sprite too. LOL! Always wanted a Jagaur XKE but it eluded me. I've owned a lots of cars lol. Use to change cars like people change their socks!

Gotta call you on the 365ph 327. That was the fuel injected engine only available in the 62-65 corvette. The hottest 327 was the 340. it was the same engine as the corvette, minus the fuely setup. Hell i use to be able to tell yo what chevy engine you had by the serial number on the block. I probably owned over all 60 chevies from '58-73. My last hot rod build was a 1979 chevy 1/2ton shortbox Fleetside. They didn't make many 6' box fleetsides. I did a mild build on a 400 small block. Crane cam, Edelbrock Performer intake with a professionally tricked Quadrajet. I changed the three speed standard to a 4speed with a hurst shifter. Chopped the rear frame and put a narrowed Ford 9" rearend in it. Had Craiger 10x15 mags on back with the "street legal" Mickey Thompsom 14" wise N50-15s. The rest of the truck I left stone stock. We'll just say I had fun with a few guys in there mustangs and Camaros!

You got me on that one, but but but there was the L79 motor that came in the corvette in the mid to late 60s was a 365 horse 327 ( had to do some research to find that haha) see I know more about the more technological newer motors than the old school small blocks and big blocks, but I know enough about them to be dangerous.... LSx, LTx motors are my specialty though. You definitely know your stuff though! I'll ya what this thread has taken off!

I lost interest in factory cars by the mid seventies. Ohh, occasionally a Camaro interested me, the mustangs became glorified Pintos. The last hot factory car I owned was a 1986 Daytona Turbo Z. Fast, comfortable with air adjustable lumbar leather seats, and great handling. AND 25mpg, what was not to like! It really wasn't until about 1990 that cars actually had real power again but I had no time for them by then. Went to college in my 40's, worked to part time computer jobs, 36 hours at each, each was a 70 mile drive. three days at one, then three at the other. Plus building a home in my ( HA! ) spare time. but I'm not complaining and I had the good fortune to own some mighty fine cars in my time. Couple of decent bikes too! the only car i REALLY wanted that i never managed to have was a Corvette. Got to drive a couple though so I'm good. My Silverado is comfortable and not too bad on gas for what it is, that all I need anymore. I'd love a spin in the new Corvette though! WOOO, been many years since a Vette looked this good!

Man pop seems like you had alot going on there haha.. Its funny you say that about a silverado, you sound like my dad (no offense).. he has a silverado now and he's all about it being comfortable and riding nice. I guess once you get a little older you see that being uncomfortable having a car that rides like shit isn't worth it haha.. See I don't like the new corvettes, I hate the way they look! Now the C6's I'm damn fond of, That will be my next toy If I get rid of my Trans Am, I want a C6 Z06 like no other. My buddies dad has one and he's let us take it out on occasion, that is one of the baddest factory cars I've ever gotten to drive, just pure amazingness :jaw:

I've always preferred sports cars over muscle cars, even though I grew up in the golden age of muscle cars, the late 60 - early 70s. In 1974 I bought a new Mercury Capri. At the time they were German imports, later they were built in Australia. Came with a 2.8 liter V6, which I believe was the first V6 marketed in the US. The Datsun 240Z was the hot car at the time and while it had a bit on the Capri in the straight aways, it couldn't hold a candle to the Capri when cornering. I'm sure those Pirelli P6 tires that came stock had something to do with that. Unfortunately I let my ex talk me into selling it because she couldn't drive a 4 speed. Wish I still had it. For the past 14 years I've been driving a Jetta TDI. It turned 200k miles last year and since I intend on keeping it, I've put a good bit into upgrading it. EGR bypass, Shine rear stabilizer and Shine racing springs, Koni FSB dampers. Removed the front stabilizer bar and installed all new bushings. Upgraded the clutch and installed new shift linkage and a short shifter. Also upped the wheels from 15 to 16" with some new Conti Purecontact 210 VR 55s. She's holding the road like a dream now. Have a few other mods planned when I have the money.

I also got a new project car to work on. A 1987 Porsche 924. Only 85k miles and in all around good condition. Haven't done anything with it yet but hope to get started on it this summer.
