Hello everyone. I am still in the research process for my very first grow! I'm very excited, and very overwhelmed with all the options. I was wondering what everyone likes and/or doesn't like to use for nutrients, and why.

Hey @Ladiesinthecloset its one of those questions youll get a dozen different answers too and reasons why.

Heres a few ive tried.

Advanced nutrients- are very popular but the range has too many additives (although running with just base nutes is fine) but they are also expensive.

Biobizzz- these are a popular organic brand. Reasonably priced i enjoyed using them in soil.

General hydroponics flora series 3 part.
I use these when i grow in a drip system.
(Wilma system) they are pretty cheap at about 10 quid a litre so 30quid for the 3 part... this grows about 8 autos.
Easy to mix and dont clog up my 4mm lines.
Although they have been bought over by monsanto and thats not a company i want to support so may drop this line for that reason alone.

Megacrop- newish company and becoming very popular. This is a 1 part all in 1 product so same stuff from veg to flower. Comes in powder form and is very concentrated so a bag goes a long way at a very fair price.

Also i would look at biotabs. These are tablets you put in your soil/coco before you plant your seed and slowly releases nutrients. So you only need to give the plants plain water.
Will try these myself soon

Yea, that's actually what I'm hoping for. I hope to get hundreds of different answers, and opinions. That way a person like myself that is looking to buy nutrients and additives for the first time or someone looking to try something different can read through and find what sounds like it might fit them best.

Have you decided what medium and style youll grow in?
Soil/coco/hydro
Small pots big pots etc

Im planning on starting with DWC. I have made myself some 3.5 gallon buckets and 5 gallon buckets. I want to use the 5 gallons so they have as much space as possible for root growth, but I'm worried about having enough vertical height for my light. Hence I made the 3.5 gallons and may go with them instead. But after finding this website and having so much more knowledge poured into my head I'm thinking hydro isn't right for me, but I won't know until I try. So my plan is the use my hydro buckets until I feel I can comfortably say I know how to use them. Then I think i would like to run coco, followed by soil. Then I will either pick one or keep running them all and whatever new comes out.

I was actually leaning towards getting the Remo supercharged kit.

The autopots really interest me as well. Liquid Jade just started a grow with that that I'm watching and trying to learn a little from.

I like your style. I have 40 different bottles and bags of nutrients/additives sitting here I have never used!
Maybe you could email different companies for samples before you sink a lot of money into nutes and then find out you dont
care for them, they are not your style, they dont work....etc.
WELCOME!!

XOXO

@Ladiesinthecloset Welcome to AFN. To get someone’s attention put the at-mark @ in front of their AFN name like I did for you. @archie gemmill will be tagging you with some important information about using AFN.

I have used several brands of nutrients: DynaGro, House & Garden, General Hydroponics, Canna, Advanced Nutrients and most recently GreenLeaf Nutrients. When I use a nutrient line I use the entire line and that line only. They are designed to work together by the vendor who spends (hundreds of) thousands of dollars with the best minds to develop the line to grow cannabis better than anyone else. It is a huge competition with millions at stake. It is important that you understand Liebig's Law of the Minimums to understand why it is important to only use one line at a time. The goal is to keep the nutrients in balance. I have grown good crops with all of the brands I tried. So why choose one over another; for me it is price. I am a cheap skate and GreenLeaf wins that battle hands down. I just completed a 6 plant grow with GreenLeaf for $15.30 compared to over $200.00 with House & Garden. It is cheaper than even DynaGro which is fair priced. There are two additives I recommend and use: Mammoth P in all of my grows and Botanicare HydroGuard in my DWC. In a side by side I did with Mammoth P yields were indeed 15%+ better with the Mammoth P. The HydroGuard cleared up a nasty root rot problem I had in a DWC. It saved the crop. I would not do DWC without it. I also use Mykos inoculant in my rock wool block system.

I have a basics thread about Deep Water Culture you may find helpful here:
