Tent Questions

Hi all...I didn't see anything specific on tent set ups and so forth...

So I'm going to sticky this thread for any questions and answers that you members with tents, can answer...

Also, if you have any pics of how your tent is set up, please post them...Pictures say a 1000 words...:thumbs:
Basically, as far as pics go, mostly looking for how yours is set up...Not so much about the plants...

I'm about to buy a small 50cm x 50cm x100cm tent. I already have a 4" carbon filter and fan combo with a 250w red cfl, just wondering what you guys thought, weather this is enough room to grow in and how many I could grow considering the size of the light, tent and filter combo? I know the plants will be small but I don't want them to be tiny! Cheers AFN

Hey guys. I am still reading. But thought I would post for some input

I will be using a T5 (its like 2x3.7) 8 bulbs to start for now.

And I am still new to the full growing and tents and all that good stuff. If you have some links of some items that would be good to put in here, filters and fans and such, I would love to look at them and review them.

I can't vent out of my room either - nothing more suspicious than ducting hanging out of a window lol I just keep my window open.

What AC have you got? Was it pricey? All the ones i'm looking at seem either cheap and rubbish or too expensive and industrial.

Hello, I realize this post is a little old but I saw a few other people with the same problem and I had the same problem myself! I'm right in the middle of what passes for a city in my state and my windows are so exposed to everybody. What I ended up doing was gutting out an old A/C unit (watch out for the freon, I'm not sure if it's toxic but we burst the line and it was hissing out into my apartment for about 45 minutes), took a pressure washer to it until it was all shiny and clean again and then mounted plywood with 2 6" ports cut into across the A/C where the control panel used to be. I have pictures of it in one of my threads, but regardless it looks awesome! You can't tell it's anything other then a regular A/C window unit from outside my apartment and I was able to mount my fan right onto the plywood so the "A/C" even sounds real because of the fan noise. Hope this helps somebody!

I always go with less intake and more exhast . The idea being to create negative pressure to draw cool air in . most of the time I simply do passive intake .

Coming from someone who's tried it multiple ways... 100% agree. Best intake is a good exhaust. Negative pressure is your friend. Most important to me it helps keep the smell in! Equally good point above about heat exchange. For arbitrarily moving air (strengthens branches, discourages fliers from settling down, lets plants get a little closer to HIDs) I keep an oscillating fan inside the tent.

i dont think its the bulbs fault man. Maybe if u had a reflector that spread the light better it wouldnt have bleached also to help with that u should rotate ur plants out from directly under the bulb. Dont just blame it on the bulb though there r other variables. Try a magnum xxl hood. As i highly doubt that light bleached all the tops. Sounds like ur hood just wasnt spreading iit good enough as i run a 600 and a 1000 watter

Hi i was running a 400 watt onmy last grow in my dr120 grow tent ive purchased 1000 watt lumii.. do you guys think it would cover the 4x4 ft space or should i have went with somthing smaller....iam exhausting outdoors throught window with 4inch inline blow fan.... i also have apowerful blow. Fan for fresh air into tent... would the temps be ok at in the mid 80`s.

More light is never going to be a problem...until you don't have enough
vertical space to keep the light from burning the tops of the plants or you
end up generating too much heat. You won't know that until you fire it up.

Hi bossman I've used a 1000 watts in a 4x4 tent, though in Summer, I have high temp issues to deal with. In my 4x4, 1000 watts runs at about 86 degrees f .. The high side of good temps, but can be managed. If the 1000 watt ballast is dimmable, try using the 600w setting for veg, then 1000w for flowering- saves money, and heat issues. In my area, 1000w is no problem in Winter- actually heats the upstairs with exhaust, though I'm a legal/medical grower so I'm not much concerned with the house smelling like a Jamaican hillside lolol.
And, N2P2K is right on with the fan input.. I am a firm believer in my tents "sucking in" when the exhaust fan is running, too, for the exact same list of reasons
