Hi there AFN!

Welcome to my very 1st grow log. It could be the most exciting or the most tedious thing I have ever embarked on, but learning is guaranteed.

I'm going to grow 3 Dutch Passion Seeds in AirPots. 2 x Daiquiri Lime Auto and 1 x Auto Blueberry

My set up is;

80x80x180 Black Orchid Silver Mylar Tent
250w SunMaster Dual Spec HPS
4" Hobby Filter and 20w Fan
3 x 15l AirPot
20w 64000k Propagation Lamp
Aeropress Coffee Maker (purely for personal nute regime) ;-)

Medium;

70% Wilko Cutting/Seedling Compost
25% Wilko Perlite
5% Clay Pebbles

Water;
Asda's Eden Falls Bottled Spring Water 6.4ph

Pips in water at 24c. When they drop I'll place them in a paper towel/baggie combo and place them in the propagator.

Pics to follow once I strip location data etc. Tinterweb is slow round ere today so I think a nice Aeropress and a smoke while it decides whether or not to work is on order!:coffee:

Thanks for stopping by, any tips/help/guidance gladly accepted, folks! :thanks:
:welcome::pass::cheers:

Wilko sells perlite? !

Good luck man! Sounds like some tasty strains! Will you be adding any more lights or trying to all 3 under the 250 watter?

That is something I am stuck on. Being a "shoe-string" grow was half of my plan but the last attempt I got 2x White Widow to yield 72 and 91g with just a red spectrum cheapo bulb and 10l tomato pots. Hopefully this time, the dual-spec upgrade and AirPots will increase my yield with minimal cost increase. However, I am trying to decide whether to go 400w HPS or buy an LED panel (I get paid end of the month so time is ticking). My biggest problem is finding an LED panel that I actually like AND can afford...not to mention stock. Why is it everytime I find something suitable, its either never to be in stock again (HS1) or just plain old illusive (Amare). Can't seem to look at Mars Hydro in a serious light, they look like cheap "Hong-Kong Specials" to me.

Oh, indeed my friend. 20p/kg cheaper than the local hydro shops (£4.75). Vermiculite also in stock m8, same (ish) price.

Cool.

Have another look at Mars mate. My smaller mars just gave me half a kilo in mx2 tent.

The bigger one has a photo plant under it that should at least equal that.

Itisi
it is isn't it?

Which one is it m8?
There seems to be too many out there, hence my hesitation to buy one. If there is that many models, it is usually a sign of poor quality in my line of work (just look at Shamsung TVs). Some of them look like a school child made and applied the branding. Not to mention the torrent of bad reviews about lifespan on Amazon.

I suppose, like yourself, plenty good reviews about performance.

I've got a reflector (green one) and a mars 2 (black/graphite one).

The white ones are the mars 1.

@witchyhour uses mars 1 and some (I think) cheaper ones as side lights and is pushing towards half pound plants.

I believe they had some counterfeit issues, which isn't really down to them.

Apart from 1 single blue led that sometimes doesn't strike up (out of .... erm... a lot) I've had no issues.

They are a bit on the hefty side, so if you have a cheap tent (plastic joints) you may have to reinforce.

The reason there are different models is as follows. Mars 1 had 3 watt led and no infra red, reflector has 3 watt (later models have 5 watt) and infrared plus a reflective thingy to chuck more light forward. The mars 2 uses 5 watt led and infrared.
The mars professional range has infinitely programmable everything.

Ah, right! That would explain a few things. The 1 blue that isn't firing properly...maybe a dry solder joint on the board? Can it be opened (the green one) so I can get in and change out any dead diodes?

I just came across a thread about Mars and a dude having the exact same query as me...which one to get.

The general consensus seems to be that a Reflector series is best for my budget, the white ones look to be the old standard.

So, now I'm buying a MarsHydro Reflector series to add to the setup. That was short and sweet :P

Cheers mate! :pass:

https://www.mars-hydro.com/ Pretty much anything to fit your budget too. And if I've heard correctly, AFN members get a discount? My area is smaller but @MarshydroTina recommended the "Reflector 48" which covers a 2'×2' area and was only about $100. So the next model up should get you where you need to be. I know a few people on here have used them. @MissUniverse got a used Mars 300 for about $70 and is doing awesome with it. They'll sure surprise the sh*t out of you haha. But I wish you luck man and keep us posted!
