Outdoor Bob takes Barneys Farm on a BioTabs tour inside the Greenhouse - Growing Strawberry Cheesecake Auto, Moby Dick Auto & Watermelon Zkittlez Auto

Harvest - Auto Watermelon Zkittlez
Hi Bob, plants are looking fine man, shame about the branches that snapped!
Always good to give them some additional support, especially if the structure is a little more stretchy or the buds have become quite heavy.

Beside some rope or a net, poles (bamboo or plastic) and some tie-rips can do the trick as well.

Looking at the buds I think they definitely need a few more weeks.. this often happens when genetics are grown outdoors or in a greenhouse.
Flowering time can be delayed with a week or two, cheers mate :d5:
Thanks for the advice brother. I'll be keeping my eyes open for bamboo sticks the next time I go the the garden center. Also read somewhere that tomato cages can be a great help. Just didn't have any use for them until now...
Well, got the Watermelon Zkittlez down on Saturday evening, so she doesn't need support anymore. Amazing stickiness on her, but the buds are mostly fluffy and no hard nugs. I think this will be a good one for extracting, but first she's going in for a cure, after she's dried enough...Which will not take long as it's 40°C/104°F outside. :yoinks:
I hung the branches close together just for the picture, but these are hanging from a line without touching each other.

Hey Friends

Today has been a freakin' hot day. So hot I needed to spray myself down before I watered the plants in the greenhouse during the day. And even then I couldn't manage to stay in there for long. Now that the sun has gone down the concrete slab on the floor still has loads of thermal mass, so tonight the windows in the greenhouse stay open. But it was manageable in there...

Since we're nearing the end of the two remaining ladies' lifecycle and I found my trusty 2K USB scope again, I thought why not make a couple of trichome shots...and while at it do a Bud Shoot :yay:

Buds
Hey Friends :toke:

Let's begin with the dry weight of the Watermelon Zkittlez...Because of the mega hot weather it is dried to a crisp. So I took the branches down and removed the buds from them. These are now in three (2L) glass weck jars, waiting to get processed. The buds are not as firm as I would have liked, but are covered in trichomes. I smoked a joint and as you might have guessed it smoked harsh because of the fast, hot drying. But got me wasted none the less.

The scales we're twitching between 144 and 145gr. This is not a bad harvest at all!! With a bit of luck I will get 10+gr of hash out of this...:goodluck:

Next up are the two ladies that remain in the greenhouse...
This Moby Dick should have been ready according to the spec sheet, but according to the trichomes she still has some way to go...What do you guys think?

Hey Friends,

Went to the greenhouse today to feed everyone in flower some extra PK and while at it I took some trichome shots from the two remaining Barney's Farm girls.
Let's begin with Auto Moby Dick, already a couple of days behind on being ready. But I have a feeling that she's about to be become amber in places. Some of you will see this in the pictures below.
In this one for example you see full trichomes and trichomes which have (what looks like) an airbubble in the top. These airbubbles disappear while the trichome fills with Cannabinoids and terpenes.
1658324178885_small.png

When they look a darker white (like the ones below) the trichome has reached it's peak containing the most active substances.
1658324178875_small.png

When you have trichomes like the ones below...well, most of these still have to fill up on goodies and turn milky.
1658324178866_small.png

So, looking at these pictures I would guesstimate another week for this Moby Dick to mature those pesky little transparent trichomes
1658324178839_small.png

Strange spikes at the foot of this flower...And overall a nice 'white' color still
1658324178821_small.png

1658324178809_small.png

Next up on the list is the Strawberry Cheesecake. Mhmmmm, the name sounds delish, but will I find strawberries in my buds or not?
According to the spec sheet she should be ready for harvest between today and the 25th...
1658324178783_small.png

On most of these shots the trichomes look white, but not milky yet. So I'll be checking both ladies the coming days for ambers and decide according to that.

I've read somewhere that some auto strains sometimes don't turn amber even after the expected time is well over...
The hint in this case would be the yellowing of the bud leaves.
Unfortunately I can't remember where I read this comment...
Does this sound familiar in your experience ?

Thanks for the pics Bob. I have always had trouble with when to harvest and your pics and descriptions on the trichomes is helpful!
Thanks buddy, glad to be of service :toke:

Well, I've had this happen quite some times while growing Auto's. In this case the plant's just aren't ready yet.
If I must guess, one week to max. two weeks. Then ambers should be around on both.

Hey Friends

I've been busy and so I've neglected my threads a bit...But I'm doing my best to update as I have the time
This post needs to be done in two parts as I have to many pictures :haha:
Let's begin with Moby Dick which is looking amazing! Although not ready yet she's about to be as her leaves are dying off...

Next up we have the Strawberry Cheesecake. This one is fading fast...Many of her fanleaves are dying off, which I've plucked from her tonight.
She's not far behind of the Moby Dick above, but looking at them closely I can see that the Moby Dick's flowers are more ripe then on this lady. But that's ok. That way I don't have to be harvesting two plants at the same time, which I find laborious work and if there's something I could automate it would be that...

Hey growers,

It has happened :wall: I've found some mold on my Strawberry Cheesecake... :crying:
The problem is, I don't know where I took that picture and looking at the buds irl I can't find it
So...What do I do friends. This is the time I need your input to this question...Do I let them run until I have enough ambers or do I cut my loses and harvest this beauty while she has buds to harvest... Dilemma :coffee2::haha:
