Outdoor Bob takes Barneys Farm on a BioTabs tour inside the Greenhouse - Growing Strawberry Cheesecake Auto, Moby Dick Auto & Watermelon Zkittlez Auto

Germination
  • Hey growers :toke:

So after three days I went for a look and lo and behold!! :coffee:
The seeds have hatched with a 100% succes rate
    1651772701003_small.jpg

I'm not going to bore you guys with pictures of me sowing them, but you get the drift? no? Ok then, here you go
Six pouches filled with enough soil to get them through their first weeks.
    1651772926461_small.jpg

They're currently filling up on water as we speak. The tray they're stand in is tilted so the water stays where it can be absorbed and I don't have to fill the whole tray with to much water. Within a couple of hours I'll be placing them under the DIY cobs until they can go inside the tent or greenhouse, whichever gets ready first.

    Experiment
  • You just push one down each side of the pot so it should be pretty easy
Yup, it was as easy as that.
I'm also doing a test for BioTabs and you guys are the first to see it.
The suggested amount of BioTabs in the manual are calculated based on photo's. Now we all know that there's a difference between photo's and auto's when it comes to nutrient uptake and necessities. So with these three plants I'm gonna try the "goldilocks method" on them. Giving one pot the recommended amount as described in the manual, one pot get's one tab less and the third pot get's two Biotabs less.
    1653404581522_small.jpg

The pots are 20L and according to the manual they should get three BioTabs. So this is how we are going to do it...
Three tabs for the Watermelon Zkittlez, two for the Moby Dick and only one Biotab for the Strawberry Cheesecake. We will see which one does best :stir:
    1653404581519_small.jpg

I pressed one Biotab 5cm deep (approx. the length of my thumb), on tab a bit deeper (approx. the length of my index finger) and the third one I pressed about 10cm in the ground. Then covered it up with the surrounding soil and away we go :wiz:

You'll have to be patient for the time lapse as downloading the pictures from the greenhouse goes remarkably slower then from within the tent. The WiFi signal isn't that good back there, but hey...It still connects no? To be continued...:coffee:

    Early Flower
  • Looking good bob. Nice healthy plants
    Thanks mate!! :toke:
Got another update for ya guys...All three plants are in flower now and they have survived the hot weather. Today is cloudy and it has rained a bit so humidity inside the greenhouse is up. I kept all the plants well watered during the hot spell and even had to resort to using the misting system. This raised the humidity so high, but kept the temperature below 45°C / 113°F

As you'll see with the other plants the lower leaves are starting to wither and yellow, which is an indicator it's time to for me to brew myself some PK Booster Compost Tea and feed it over the next days to these ladies.

Finally Moby Dick is starting to flower.

And finally my price and joy. She is most definitely the prettiest of the three ladies. She's also the biggest measuring over 1m60 / 5.25'.
Have a look at those bud sites. How plenty they are...:woohoo1:

    Mid Flower
  • Ahhh...Lovely day today. Enjoyed my stay inside the greenhouse this morning. Temperatures where bearable because of a cloudy sky.
While sitting there and enjoying my coffee with a nice fatty for breakfast I watered the plants and took some pictures...
Strawberry Cheesecake Auto - day 61
    1657099247430_small.jpg

Have a look at the above soil. So healthy and all I have to do is keep it wet. Not soaking wet, but just wet throughout. As the plants grow and colonize the soil with their roots they use up more and more water. This SCc is drinking her pot dry in about 36 hours...
Strawberry Cheesecake Auto - day 61
    1657099247421_small.jpg

...But then she is full on in flower throwing pistil after pistil and starting to bulk up because of that. The real fattening up will come as each calyx will swell up awaiting pollination which will never happen :muahaha:

Strawberry Cheesecake Auto - day 61
    1657099247405_small.jpg

Moby Dick was the slowest in veg, but has gained speed during flower. She has even surpassed SCc in expansion...
Moby Dick Auto - day 61
    1657099247400_small.jpg

She is frosty as fuck and I'll probably get loads of trim from her as her leaves are littered with sticky oily trichomes :coffee:

Moby Dick Auto - day 61
    1657099247387_small.jpg

Trimming this will probably take quite a while, so I'll be testing her during drying a couple of times to see if I like her well enough to put my hands through that ordeal or if I'll be putting it in bags for processing at a later date.
Moby Dick Auto - day 61
    1657099247382_small.jpg

This WmZ is an absolute beast! The largest and furthest in the greenhouse. She is unbelievably sticky as I brushed against her with my arm and the hairs stuck together :clapper:
Watermelon Zkittlez Auto - day 61
    1657099247376_small.jpg

Although also very leafy the ratio goes more to the bud side then the leaf side. And as both leaves and buds are covered with trichomes I will not be the one to complain about a couple of leaves  Worst case scenario is that after drying I'll process it into hash or rosin. I think she'll be a great rosin producer, just like the MD above...
Watermelon Zkittlez Auto - day 61
    1657099247367_small.jpg

Still, look at those main bud sites...Littered with flowers which all have to expand fully...

    Harvest - Auto Watermelon Zkittlez
  • Hi Bob, plants are looking fine man, shame about the branches that snapped!
Always good to give them some additional support, especially if the structure is a little more stretchy or the buds have become quite heavy.

Beside some rope or a net, poles (bamboo or plastic) and some tie-rips can do the trick as well.

Looking at the buds I think they definitely need a few more weeks.. this often happens when genetics are grown outdoors or in a greenhouse.
Flowering time can be delayed with a week or two, cheers mate :d5:
Thanks for the advice brother. I'll be keeping my eyes open for bamboo sticks the next time I go the the garden center. Also read somewhere that tomato cages can be a great help. Just didn't have any use for them until now...
Well, got the Watermelon Zkittlez down on Saturday evening, so she doesn't need support anymore. Amazing stickiness on her, but the buds are mostly fluffy and no hard nugs. I think this will be a good one for extracting, but first she's going in for a cure, after she's dried enough...Which will not take long as it's 40°C/104°F outside. :yoinks:
I hung the branches close together just for the picture, but these are hanging from a line without touching each other.

    Buds
  • Hey Friends :toke:

Let's begin with the dry weight of the Watermelon Zkittlez...Because of the mega hot weather it is dried to a crisp. So I took the branches down and removed the buds from them. These are now in three (2L) glass weck jars, waiting to get processed. The buds are not as firm as I would have liked, but are covered in trichomes. I smoked a joint and as you might have guessed it smoked harsh because of the fast, hot drying. But got me wasted none the less.
    1658260213280_small.jpg

The scales we're twitching between 144 and 145gr. This is not a bad harvest at all!! With a bit of luck I will get 10+gr of hash out of this...:goodluck:
    1658260213277_small.jpg

Next up are the two ladies that remain in the greenhouse...
This Moby Dick should have been ready according to the spec sheet, but according to the trichomes she still has some way to go...What do you guys think?

    Harvest - Auto Moby Dick
  • Since it was a cloudy day it was perfect residing in the greenhouse. Windows still open of course, but lounging in my lazy chair with a cup of coffee and a test joint filled with some Moby Dick I took three days ago... Must say it is a fine smoke and even without curing a lovely taste and high.
    Took some bud shots :drunks:

... and based upon how the looked, decided it was time for Moby Dick to come down. This picture is mid harvest, but you know...Sticky fingers prohibited me from taking more...Oh, during harvest I did find one small spot which had mold, but after removing this I didn't find any more. Most likely I'll find more when the drying has finished, but this a good sign and I couldn't be happier. Thanks to @Phyter for the RotBlock he provided me mold could be reduced to this!!

    Buds - Auto Moby Dick
  • Hey friends :bighug:

After four days of drying in the shed the fruit of my labor was ready for the next step in processing. I waited until everyone went to bed as this job really stinks up the place and I need good light to do this job. So after everyone went to bed I took the Moby Dick inside and started to remove the buds from the branches. Then sorting them from big to small.
    1659140467137_small.jpg

I ended up with 88gr / 3.1 onces of primo bud...
    1659140466905_small.jpg

...I took my time to trim these up real nice, but still on hind sight it looks like a terrible job :deadhorse:
    1659140466900_small.jpg

These do smell likegood weed and curing still has to commence
    1659140466897_small.jpg

    1659140466893_small.jpg

I have 25gr / 0.88 once of popcorn buds I'm not going to waste my time on trimming.
Together with the trim they will go inside a bag for processing on a later date.
    1659140466888_small.jpg

Some close-ups from the popcorn buds...
    1659140466886_small.jpg

    1659140466883_small.jpg

Not that it matters to me, but some do care so here's the weight of my trim... 13gr / 0.45 once. All this is going in a large plastic bag into the freezer.
    1659140466880_small.jpg

Even that trim looks frosty as f#(k :headbang:
